Our experience with design and implement of an effective Application decommissioning Solution
comes with having executed decommissioning projects with data running on various hardware
systems, for a client. After the applications and hardware were safely retired, our clients used their
choice of reporting tools to access their historical data.
Another client had several different retired versions of Oracle E-Business Suite on separate operating
systems running on different hardware systems, and maintenance of these incurred hardware and
software system costs along with labor costs. According to the retirement strategy we designed, we
de-supported their Oracle EBS instances and provided access to the data without requiring licenses.
After studying their production process, we created an archiving template and implemented the IBM
Optim Application Retirement Solution. This enabled us to eliminate hardware costs on the archived
databases.
