With the opening of this pilot network, Monaco telecom ispreparing a commercial launch before end of 2013, according to the launchesscheduled by the other European operators. Cable & Wireless, main shareholder ofthe operator has selected Monaco as worldwide competence platform and first 4Gproject for the group.Monaco Telecom has already installed the first LTE radio sites and the network corewithin the principality’s territory. To support the rollout of its 4G LTE pilot network, Monaco Telecom has selectedEricsson, a pioneer and global leader in this new technology.“This is an important agreement for Ericsson. Monaco Telecom, like other operators, hashad to rethink its infrastructure and evolve the technologies that underpin its mobilenetwork.“Mobile internet usage increased by a factor of four in 2010. As this trend continuesto accelerate, the volume of data exchanged in January 2014 will be equivalent tothe volume for the entire year in 2010,” says Martin Péronnet, CEO of MonacoTelecom. “70% of telephones sold in Monaco are smartphones. And in December2010, one third of contracts signed were for tablet computers and 3G dongles.”To support these new usage patterns, 4G allows:- Faster connection speeds (up to 100 Mb/s), particularly important for video applications, which require huge bandwidth. www.monaco.mc
