China has reported a significant jump in the Iron ore stockpiles.
The Iron ore stockpiles for the week ended 25th April have
reached highest level. The sharp rise has been due to the expec-
tations of increased demand and the steel mills ramping up the
production of steel and its components. Inventories at Chinese
ports rose 1.4 percent to 109.55 million metric tons in the week
ended April 25 from a week earlier, according to data by Shang-
hai Steelhome Information Technology Co. Stockpiles have
climbed 25% so far this year. Iron ore shipments into China
The International Monetary Fund on Monday said pushing
ahead with structural reforms will be critical to reduce vulner-
abilities and sustain Asia's growth momentum. In the Regional
Economic Outlook for Asia and Pacific, the IMF said the reform
agenda varies considerably across economies in the region. The
lender observed that Asia is facing various risks emanating from
within the region. Growth in China and Japan could also fall
below expectations, with negative spillovers for the rest of the
region, IMF noted. Nonetheless, the IMF said the region will
continue to be among the global growth leaders. It projected 5.5
percent growth in 2014-2015.
COMMODITY BUZZ
Gold prices rose 0.35 per cent to Rs. 28,481 per 10 grams in fu-
tures trade as speculators created fresh positions after the pre-
cious metal climbed to over one-week high in the global mar-
kets. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold for delivery in
August was up by Rs.98, or 0.35 per cent, to Rs. 28,481 per 10
grams in a business turnover of 13 lots The metal for delivery
in June moved up by Rs. 79, or 0.27 per cent, to Rs.28,984 per
10 grams in a turnover of 413 lots. the precious metal in the
global market where it soared to more than one-week level as
a worsening crisis in Ukraine fuelled haven demand, influ-
enced gold prices at futures trade here. Meanwhile, gold rose
by 0.30per cent to $1,306.59 an ounce in Singapore,
The COMEX gold for June delivery rose to a session high of
$1,306.50 a troy ounce and currently quotes at $1,299.80,
down $1 a troy ounce. Silver July quotes at $19.620 a troy
ounce, down $0.098 a troy ounce from last close. Local gold
traded with mixed note due to the volatility in the interna-
tional gold futures and local currencies. The Indian rupee
traded off the low of Rs 60.41 per one dollar and quotes cur-
rently at Rs 60.635, up Rs 0.035 from last close.
