  1. 1. My message for the“Tree-to-Teach Campaign”Organized bySamtulya Paryavaran Siksha Prasar KendraOn5 JuneWorld Environment Day 2013@Telam, Assam,IndiaKumarDeepak
  2. 2. Message on World Environment Day 2013:Respected Teachers & Dear Students, I am privileged to interactwith you all on this day of Environment today…Friends, ourimbalanced & blind development ambitions have forced us to livein a condition of instable ecosystem…Over the period of time, wehave deteriorated our soil, water & air...Consequently we have sofar deforested a huge green coverage all over the World with theexpanding pace of Industrialization & urbanization…Global Warmingis visible & we don’t need to exemplify this prevailing hightemperature phenomena through mere laboratory analysis basedpredictions…Yes the climate has not only drifted but it’s stillchanging day by day…The drastic transition in the Global climateis question of serious concern because it’s been impacting ourlife in various ways…Global Climate Change is affecting severelyto our farming community…The pattern of agriculture hasdrastically been shifted in a state of vulnerability where we arewitnessing a discontinuous, irregular & non-uniform monsoonrainfall…
  3. 3. Such state of climatic disappointment has forced a huge mass of farmingclasses to adopt the Genetically Modified Seeds (GMOs) all round theglobe…GMOs seeds were initially found to be promising as the per capitayield was not only higher but the genetic mutations provide immunityagainst some known pest attack as well as such seeds can grow in adversecircumstances of climatic conditions of low water availability…GMOs seedstake normally lesser time to harvest so why such merits brought attentionto adopt this mutant variety of seeds globally…Such enforced practice ofinorganic farming under the impact of Global Climate Change was proven tobe lethal for the health of not only the human but also for the potencyof the soil …GMOs deteriorate to instablize the soil ecology…Vastintroduction of GMOs seeds particularly in developing Nations like Indiawithout going through a proper experimentation & evaluation ofEnvironmental Impact Assessment, Soil Impact Assessment etc. over theHuman’s health & food chain system have so far proven to be a greateconomic loss…Farmers are being enforced to suicide & there are beingregistered the suicidal cases of farmers from Vidharbha in Maharashtra,Andhra-Pradesh & other regions of India….GMOs are not economically &environmentally viable solutions but yes even if the Government wants tocontinue such GMOs variety need a proper Environmental Impact Assessment,Soil Impact Assessment & Health Assessment with regard to human & widebiodiversity in an ecosystem to get ensured that it won’t affect our poorfarming habitations…
  4. 4. We are passing through a vulnerable state where thenatural disasters are proving to be man-made…We human overa period of time are becoming notorious in exploiting ournatural resources…We have been over-exploiting ourconventional Natural Resources since post-industrialization regime…Now it’s been a statedepletion…The Natural Resource Mismanagement developed awide socio-economic disparities globally…Inequality & non-uniformity in Natural Resource utilization lead to leavethe world under the corporate colonial umbrella…CorporateEcological Imperialism is operating through an integratednexus of giant corporate houses & the respectiveGovernment…
  5. 5. We are observing a drastic depletion in ourforest cover & its biodiversity…It causesdepletion in our Genetic Resources…We haveforced an uncountable numbers of flora &fauna species to extinct & many more in theEndangered, Vulnerable & Rare list in theWWF Red Data Book…
  6. 6. Waste Management is a challenge in urban habitations…theadvent of plastics was a revolution in beginning & whenits became an integral part of our day-to-day life, theplastics are supposed to be the most destructive elementto the Human Ecosystem…Plastics are not only affecting theterrestrial ecosystem but its equally dangerous for thefauna of the maritime ecosystem…Friends we just need toeradicate this menace…We need to change our life style…Weneed to omit such practice of carrying non-biodegradablesubstance …We should develop a discipline to carry thebags of cloths & other than plastics in our day-to-daylife…We should discard the use of plastics in any form &its manifestations…
  7. 7. Friends, safe drinking water is our inherent fundamentalright…India is suffering from a serious water crisis…Our majorsurface fresh water resources are filled with untreated wastefrom the industries & the urban waste from major & small urbanhabitations…Consequently such water is losing its potablenature…High degree of harmful contamination like Cadmium,Mercury, Arsenic, Fluorine, complex hydrocarbons & micro-organisms have left the major & minor river channels are notpotable for the proper human use…Enriched pouring offertilizers & chemical pesticides is contaminating our pondecosystem…Leaching to contaminate our under-ground waterresources with arsenic, fluorine, Iron etc. is a substance ofcritical concern…Now a day such lethal heavy metals are foundin our food chain system…Water is the life-line component fornot only the human but for all flora & fauna…So friendspreserve our water resource…Stop the misuse of water…harvestthe rain water by normal traditional practice of digging apond around each home…We need to harvest the rain water tomaintain the under-ground water level…Conserving the majorityof rain water will balance our water table…We all need yourconstructive cooperation…
  8. 8. Friends, protect the trees…Let them to suppose it as an eminent member of yourfamily…nurture them…nourish them to grow…Cover the Mother Earth Green & ansmiling mother earth will let you all to smile, happy, healthy & prosperous…There isno solution to this Global Climate change except our efforts to adopt a simple lifestyle based on minimum use of natural resources…We human would have to careour forest, river, oceans, wetlands, coral reef biome…
  9. 9. It’s time to look into the opportunity to generate powerfrom diverse non-conventional energy resources like windenergy, solar energy, geo-thermal energy, nuclear energy, biomass etc…Our Government is working but more importantlywe people need to cooperate…Our participation is the keyto reach at a possible climatic solution…be a climateleader & observe the change!Environment at Risk creates vulnerability in health…A Healthy Ecosystem guides you a healthy & economicallyprosperous life….Go Green!Eat Green Healthy! Thanks!Kumar DeepakEnvironmentalist
