  • What You Need to KnowIn 2013, the technical capabilities underpinning social software in the workplace are not nearly as mysterious and obscure as they were even a few years ago. In fact, the market has achieved widespread consensus about what the most common features are and roughly how they should work. It is, therefore, difficult to differentiate vendors in this market by looking at those common capabilities. The market for social software in the workplace will be increasingly marked by more advanced features. Potential buyers should understand which of these advanced features their enterprises can effectively benefit from before evaluating products.

  • Home Sweet Home?
  • So, what’s Enterprise Social Networking?
  • Enterprise Social Networking?
  • Don’t fall asleep on me, yet. “Enterprise social networking focuses on the use of online social networks or social relations among people who share business interests and/or activities. Enterprise social networking is often a facility of enterprise social software (regarded as a primary component of Enterprise 2.0), which is essentially social software used in "enterprise" (business/commercial) contexts. It encompasses modifications to corporate intranets and other classic software platforms used by large companies to organize their communication, collaboration and other aspects of their intranets. Enterprise social networking is also generally thought to include the use of a standard external social networking service to generate visibility for an enterprise.” Wikipedia

  • Research on ESN…
  • Research on ESN… “Enterprise social networks will become the primary communication channels for noticing, deciding or acting on information relevant to carrying out work.” Gartner Group
  • Research on ESN… “By 2016, 50 percent of large organizations will have internal Facebook-like social networks. 30 percent of these will be considered as essential as email and telephones are today. “ Gartner Group
  • Research on ESNs… “More than 90 percent of Fortune 500 companies will partially or fully implement an enterprise social network by the end of 2013… That would represent a 70 percent increase over 2011.” Deloitte (Insights for CIOs)
  • Why ESNs… So, Enterprise Social Networking is cool, widely adopted, and growing fast, but really - what problems does it solve?
  • Research on ESN… “Consumers don‟t want brand relationships to be part of their open social networks; instead they want company websites to be more like their experiences with open social networks.” The Incyte Group
  • Research on ESN… “The primary beef with platforms like Facebook and Google+ tends to be that user information is effectively walled off from the rest of the Internet. The treasure trove of content posted and shared within Facebook, for instance, is largely invisible outside of Facebook. Google can‟t crawl it.” Fast Company
