    • DIPLOMACY. Created by: Choy Jing Yi (2) Sarah Huang (7) Jean Lim (8) Ong En Hui (15)
    • Regional relations
      • It’s the forming of an association of countries in a region.
      • E.g. Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)
    • ASEAN
      • 1) Singapore has provided technical training to 1700 officials from Laos since 1993.
      • 2) Singapore offers scholarships to students of ASEAN countries under the Singapore Cooperation Programme (SCP)
    • ASEAN
      • 3) Singapore assisted Indonesia in the monitoring of forest fires through the use of satellite images.
      • 4) Singapore contributed SGD5million towards funding joint youth activities in the ASEAN region over a five-year period till 2011.
    • Benefits
      • ASEAN provides avenue for Singapore to discuss their differences with neighbouring countries peacefully.
      • It enables Singapore to forge better relations with its neighbouring countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia.
    • Benefits
      • Under the Singapore-ASEAN youth fund, it aims to foster ASEAN unity in ASEAN youths and promote greater awareness of ASEAN internationally. The Fund supports partnerships among ASEAN youths and Youth Sector Organisations (YSOs), thus contributing to greater understanding and closer ties within the ASEAN community.
    • More beneficial?
      • Bilateral relations is a relationship that only involves two countries, thus its risky as there’s no “backup” countries to count on. Also, Singapore and its partnering country might be encountering the same problem, and so there might not be enough assistance to counter the problem.
    • More beneficial?
      • International relations on the other hand, involves too many countries. There is a higher chance that disputes would arise, and too many opinions might get out of hand. When there’s too many countries, the attention placed on Singapore would be lesser. This would affect the effectiveness of this diplomacy and in turn affect Singapore.
    • Conclusion…
      • Regional relations is the best for Singapore, as she is part of the Southeast Asia region, thus they have similar needs and thus, when problems arises, they would be able to solve it more effectively, making the relation more efficient and beneficial.
      • THANK YOU!
