For those of you wondering why your booster club or group would need insurance its important to remember that: Just like a business, your group is exposed to risks each time you hold an event or activity. Less than 5% of school insurance policies now cover youth groups. As officers and directors you are responsible should something happen. Group insurance will protect you and your group regardless of who is at fault.
— Just like a business, your Booster Club is exposed to risks.
— Booster Club’s are not immune from liability.
— In the past, many school insurance policies have covered Booster Club’s, but today less than 5% are covered under the school’s insurance policy.
Your Booster Club insurance policy will protect not only the assets of the Booster Club, but the personal assets of its members. In the event of a lawsuit, your Booster Club insurance will also pay attorney fees to defend you, whether the lawsuit has merit or not.
15.) Booster clubs and youth groups all face similar challenges including Constant Turnover. Which causes a lack of continuity, no transition plan from outgoing officers to incoming ones, no mentorship system. And little if no previous to help guide new club officers. Through the support of local club advisors NABCA will help you and your group to overcome these challenges. But today we simply want to provide a few tips and pointers to help guide your progress.
16.) Here is a simple tip that any group can implement and one that will help to increase the consistency and success of any program by 50% or more.
Leadership such as the president, vice president, secretary, treasurer and other important positions should always be held by parents of
underclassman. This will establish a natural system for providing ongoing mentorship and increase the level of participation among parents.
Booster Tip #1: Underclassman parents always assume leadership roles.
(currently 94% of all booster clubs are lead by senior parents).
Result: Increased participation, knowledgeable mentorship system and established a natural format for transition and continuity. Increases the consistency and success by over 50%.
17.) Has your club ever faced the challenge of a lack of parent participation?
Here are some simple tips to help increase parent participation.
Establish a mission statement so parents understand what your group stands for. At the start of the year be clear with the parents on what is expected of them. Build value in membership. Examples are special parking and seating at games and discounted concession items. Promote your club membership to alumni and business supporters.
• Increasing parent participation
• Does your club have a clear mission statement
• Do the parents know what is expected of them
• Biggest fear: commitment
• Do you promote your clubs membership
• Does your membership have value
• Do you invite alumni and business supporters to
become members
18.) If your group is facing a lack of meeting attendance here are some helpful tips.
Never hold meetings longer than 1 hour.
Always pass out a meeting agenda.
Schedule meetings on the same day each month.
Send out email invitations a few days before each meeting.
Invite a special guest speaker to talk about an important topic to your group.
Always conduct your meeting so that the parents feel welcomed.
19.) Has your group experienced a challenge with a school administrator?
