What is Affiliate Marketing? The term “affiliate marketing” refers to the endorsement of products or services in the Internet through affiliates. Affiliates are usually webmasters and ezine publishers who act as sales agents on behalf of their clients in exchange for a commission on each sale made. In affiliate marketing, you can prefer either the one-tier program or the two-tier program. In the former, you earn on a per referral basis and cannot hire sub-affiliates to assist you in endorsing a certain product or service. The commission will come from your direct referral. The latter is quite favorable to you as an affiliate. And, for neophyte Internet marketers, the best place to start may be with affiliate products. Rather than going through the laborious and expensive process of creating your own product (of dubious quality) and then trying to market it to the masses, why not start by finding a product that is well put-together and comes from someone who already has a high degree of credibility? You could save a lot of time, money, frustration, and will power; and you could make money in the process, too—in fact, really, really good money. Many top Internet marketers today still sell affiliate products, even though they make a killing off of their own. Why? Because it’s still fantastic money and little effort is required. Now, with that said, it’s important to mention that affiliate marketing is no walk in the park, either. It’s certainly easier than pulling off a massive product launch, but, like anything else, there are plenty of pitfalls just waiting to consume you and your money. Do yourself a favor: heed what I say and avoid those pitfalls. In this section, I will go over the top 7: Pitfall #1: Choosing a Bad Product Category to Promote Not all products are created equal. In fact, that is probably the driving motivation behind your decision to sell affiliate products: for the most part, you have accepted that there are plenty of high-quality products already on the market; and, if you create your own, it might not compare favorably. If you decide to pick your product off of a list on Clickbank, select very carefully. Rather than haphazardly selecting the product with the highest commission, look for ones that fir into niche categories. HOT CATEGORIES THIS YEAR WILL BE: HEALTH, DIET, WEIGHT LOSS, PARENTING, CHILD FITNESS, SPIRIRUALITY, RECIPES, COOKING and MEDITATION! In addition to picking good products within niches, you will also want to look for good niches. Here’s a stupid tip that will illustrate my point nonetheless: don’t sell garden hoses in the winter. No one will buy. Focus on products that a lot of people want; and if their popularity just surged, now is the best time to get in the market. Pitfall #2: Picking a Low Converter As an affiliate marketer, your goal is to profit from the hard worker others have done; and from the money they have spent on copywriters, product developers, and software. If you select a product that underutilizes these advantages, you are likely to benefit less. Take, for instance, conversion rates. Not all product creators hire a top-notch copywriter. In fact, many of them just write their own copy. Many also don’t hire someone to do

The page looks hideous, the copy contains major errors, and the product converts poorly. Before you start promoting any particular product, read the sales page carefully and compare it with others. Do you feel compelled to buy? Did the graphics throw you off? Did the copy fail to reel you in for the catch? These can all amount to fatal errors for both the seller and you. You cannot help the seller at this point, but you can avoid his product and find a better one. Do yourself a favor: choose your products carefully. TIP: PRODUCTS ENDORSED MY CELEBRITIES WORK AMAZINGLY!!! Pitfall #3: Selling Financial Services/Investment Products This pitfall is especially important to avoid if you have a list. All it takes is one erroneous product promotion and you could end up with a mass exodus from your list. Again, don’t make this error. Financial Services (like invest in IPOs or Gold or Day-Trading Stocks products) usually have a high refund rate. Instead, focus on eBooks and Audio and Video Products. AGAIN, HOT CATEGORIES THIS YEAR WILL BE: HEALTH, DIET, WEIGHT LOSS, PARENTING, CHILD FITNESS, SPIRIRUALITY, RECIPES, COOKING and MEDITATION! Pitfall #4: Picking Products that Offer Meager Commissions If you’re marketing to a list of people, they’re only going to consider so many product offers in a given period of time, so select the ones you promote wisely. If you promote something that only generates a 25% commission for you, then you’re leaving a lot on the time. In reality, you could probably find a similar product that offers a 50% or 75% commission. For Example, GET 75% COMMISSION HERE: In terms of the actual dollar value of the commission – don’t sweat that as much. While many top name Internet marketers now say that they concentrate on promoting highticket items (since only a few sales will generate a lot of money), you can still make a killing selling relatively cheap reports. The rising popularity of the $7 report is testament to this fact. So avoid the cheapo sellers, but don’t worry as much about the price. Pitfall #5: Failing to Collect Leads Always, always, always capture leads. In addition to generating traffic through pay per click, search engine optimization, and other methods and then sending that traffic to your affiliate link, you should make an effort to convert them into list members too. Why?

The simple mathematical reasoning goes something like this: virtually everyone who would have purchased the product will opt in to your mailing list. And many who definitely would not have purchased the product will opt in to your mailing list. Instead of converting at a rate of around 1-3% (in affiliate sales), you will convert between 15 and 40% of visitors (to your mailing list). From there, you will get the chance to contact the willing buyers and the more reluctant. Additionally, once they’re on a list, this is no longer a one-off effort. You get the chance to market to them again and again for the same product until they decide to buy for months or even years. Pitfall #6: Ignoring the Importance of Timeliness In business in general, the quick often outcompete those endowed with greater resources. Today, Google is no longer a small company with meager revenues, but in the past, it emerged from nowhere to outcompete massively well-endowed rivals; and it did so with cunning. How does this apply to you? Successful affiliate product promotion requires you to do more than simply slap an affiliate link in an email and send it out to a couple thousand people. If you expect them to actually buy, your email should be newsworthy – not promotional. If you can genuinely write your email as if it were a news announcement, you are far more likely to draw interest than if you send a link to an Internet marketing ebook that was written in 1998 and wasn’t particularly popular then. You need to find product launches that qualify as an “event.” Find something so big that people follow the event and comment on it. If you can find such a product (say, the iPhone of Internet marketing products), it is critical that you engineer your own build-up and release, centered on the build-up and release of the product. You will want to make sure that your list members purchase from you, rather than from another list owner. To make it short and sweet: pay attention to the clock and the calendar. If there’s a big launch coming up, you need to capitalize on it quickly. There may not be a second window for opportunity. So take it when you have it. Pitfall #7: Giving Up Many affiliate marketers fail to be successful because they give up on a product before their efforts pay off. Repetitive and creative market for the same products will pay off. NEVER EVER GIVE UP! If you’re not making enough sales with a specific product or line of products, analyze your approach, make some changes, and try try try again!

There are some pitfalls involved, but you already know the big seven; avoid these, and you’ll sail through into profit, following the trail of past super affiliates. Clickbank Tutorial — How to Get Started with Clickbank So you’ve decided that you’re ready to make money from home on the Internet but you don’t know where to start. You can definitely make money with Clickbank, and as a Clickbank affiliate, the road to riches may be closer than you think. You can get started with little or no money and build your Internet business with the profits you earn. That’s the real reason this business is so exciting and rewarding — the ability to to turn free or low-cost advertising into a steady income. Before we move into the fun part, you have to set up an account on Clickbank. It’s easy and painless: just go to and click the Sign Up with Clickbank link in the middle of the page. You’ll need to enter your name and address (for checks!) and contact information including your email address and phone number. You can use your primary email address; Clickbank won’t send you a bunch of spam. You’ll also need to choose an account nickname. This will appear in all of your links to their products, so choose accordingly. You’re better off if you use something that sounds somewhat professional, such as “saleslink”, and not something silly like “hotmomma”. Just think about which you’d rather see in a merchant link. When you’re finished, click Submit and you’ll have your Clickbank affiliate account. Once you set up the account, you’ll want to sign in and go to the Account Settings tab and set up your tax id and payment threshold. When you’re starting out you can set this to $10 or $25, but once the sales start rolling in, you should bump it up to a higher number. You can set it as high as $100,000 so they won’t send you a check until you have $100,000 in sales. Yes, there are affiliates making enough that they need that high of a limit!
  8. 8. JOIN THE WINNING AFFILIATE TEAM AT CREATE YOUR AFFILIATE HOP LINK (HOPLINK) Clickbank has an auto hoplink maker that yo ucan use to create liinks to any of their products in the marketplace. For example: if you are promoting THE CELEBRITY DIET, your Affiliate Link Would be: Replace the “YourClickbankID” with your clickbank username and “XXXXXX” with the product you are promoting (rockstar, meditation, fitkids, etc. - SEE BELOW) . Make sure to keep the rest of the link EXACTLY as you see it! If you are promoting MEDITATION, your Affiliate Link Would be: If you are promoting FIT KIDS HEALTHY KIDS HAPPY KIDS , your Affiliate Link Would be: These links are where you direct traffic and potential customers – when anyone who clicks on your link and buys a product, you get credit for the sale and GET PAID!
  9. 9. JOIN THE WINNING AFFILIATE TEAM AT KEYWORDS: Finding appropriate keywords to drive traffic (customers) to your product is going to take a little more work. There are some tools to help you, and even better, you carry around a pretty good one everywhere you go: your brain. The key to finding profitable keywords is pretty simple: keywords are just search terms that users type into the search engines. Pretty crazy, huh? You want to figure out what people in your target niche are likely to search for when they are desperate for help and pulling out their wallet ready to pay for an answer. Pretty simple in theory, but it takes some practice to pull it off. Here’s an example from above. Let’s say I’m a man looking for help in the “male enhancement” arena. I might type in any of the following when I’m looking for information to learn more: • • • • male enhancement male libido enhancement natural male enhancement male enhancement review, etc. (you get the idea) I might even have a specific product in mind that I’ve seen on TV: • • • enzyte side effects enzyte review does enzyte work, etc. But if you’re selling an informational product from Clickbook about male enhancement, you want to align with someone who’s looking for help — serious help – right now: • fast cure for erectile dysfunction • need help with staying power • discrete cure for impotence, etc. There are tools available for keyword research. One of the most used is the suggestion box the Google Adwords provides when you’re settin up an ad. However, because it’s so popular, the keywords it finds you aren’t going to be very unique. Use your gray matter and tweak them into a meaningful phrase like the example above and you’ll do much better. There are many more keyword tools available online, but if you want the best keywords for Clickbank items, you have to do what very few Clickbank affiliates do: use your brain.
  10. 10. JOIN THE WINNING AFFILIATE TEAM AT If you haven’t done so already, you’ll need to create a Google Adwords account. Once you’ve signed up, you’ll be prompted to create a campaign. Follow the onscreen instructions and you can set your daily budget to an amount you feel comfortable with. You can always change this later, so it’s ok to be conservative. Next you get to create your first ad. The title and the ad itself should contain the main keywords from your group of keywords; this is very important because these words will be bold when the ad is shown for your keywords. Continuing with the example above, you might write the ad as follows: Want To Get Your Kids Healthy? Fun songs that encourage kids to exercise and be healthy You’ll probably want to spend time tweaking your ads, but you can always put up two at a time and keep the one that works the best. Make it a battle of the fittest of sorts. Make sure to use your Clickbank affiliate link for the Destination URL and the name of the publisher’s website as the Display URL to follow Google’s advertising guidelines. Next you’ll enter your keywords. Try to use 25 or less for each ad group, and make sure each ad group has a common theme. Continuing with the example, you might use these keywords with a common theme of “staying power” to match the example ad: • • • get kids to exercise child obesity childrens music Next you’ll have to decide how much you’ll pay for each click. The goal is to get a listing somewhere between position 2 and 9, so you don’t want to bid too much. I usually start out at the recommended cost from Google and adjust as needed. Sometimes if you choose CPM you can get the cost down to $.05 or less per click if your keywords, ad, and affiliate page all have matching, relevant words. When you save, your ad will start running. You’ll want to keep a close eye on it the first few days to make sure that you don’t have any run-away costs. You can adjust as needed. I like to add similar keywords for those that are working as well. Eventually, if you followed the plan, you’ll log onto Clickbank and see your first affiliate sale. Once you start making some money, you can spread out into other keywords, products, or niches and repeat the process. Making money as an affiliate isn’t difficult with a little work. You need to make sure to use the right niche, pick targeted keywords, and write well-aligned ads. Much of this can come from practice, and you can most likely get customized help from the vendor of the product.
