    1. Lesson #7 OK, Now What? Putting an online strategy in place for Brand You

What have we learned over the past 5 weeks? • Social media is about two-way communications, so any plan must allow for conversation. • Social media is about what is happening now, so content must be consistently fresh. • Social media is about sharing in mixed media formats, so plans should include text, audio, video, and photos. • Social media is about like-minded people sharing with each other. • Social media is transparent, so don’t try to hide. • When using social media, plan for the unexpected. 2

    5. Targets People that you want to know more about you.

Strategy #1: Establish a brand personality. • Social media is all about sharing who you are, so decide what elements of your personality will stand out and own those personality traits. • How do you determine what your most promotable traits might be? - People always say I am ____________. - I am really good at ______________. - If I were going to give a speech, I would talk about _____________. - I know _____________. 6

Strategy #2: Create a hub for your personality. • Start a website; use a blogging software to make it easy (Wordpress, Blogger, Typepad, Tumblr). • Buy a custom URL, preferably your name if it is available. • Post your resume. • Use multimedia: photos, videos, audio, text. Consider a video resume. • Update frequently with information people want. • Link out to your other social media networks/ profiles. 9
    10. Strategy #3: Establish accounts on existing social networks and keep those profiles active. • Google profile • LinkedIn • Facebook • Twitter • YouTube channel • Vimeo channel • Flickr group • Feed all of these into your website. 10

    13. Strategy #6: Market yourself. • Comment on blogs. • Follow influencers in your industry on Twitter. Retweet them when appropriate. 13
