Band Logo and Album Name – As you
can see, a Bold Font has been used for the
Title of the Album, and the Band’s Name.
They are both in an identical font, in order
to make the design look more uniform and
stand out to the reader as a result. Also,
the use of Capital Letters enables the text
to stand out more. Plus, the Font has a
slight Eroded and Worn Out look to it;
which links in with the idea that Rock
Music is quite Rough and Un-Refined.
Reflection on Genre and Cover Theme –
When I have looked at other Digi Paks that
are also from Bands of a similar Genre to
Fall Out Boy, they are also either quite
symbolic, or have very detailed Art Work
that is iconic to the certain band; for
example, the Blink 182 ‘Smiley’, and The
Wonder Years ‘Hank the Pigeon’. Unlike Pop
Albums for example, these kind of Album
Covers often revolve around Photoshop
Manipulated Group Shots of the Band; with
Rock especially, I get the impression that a
lot more thought goes into these Album
Covers when compared to Pop Albums.
Colour Scheme – After looking at the whole
Digi Pak for this album, I have gathered that
the Main Colour is Red. With this image, the
shades of Red that are present really stand
out to me, and I think that this is what
makes the image Strong and Iconic for the
Front Cover. As you can see, there are Red
items in the Background, and the Male’s
Robes on the Right are Red. When looking
deeper into the Colour Red, it is normally
associated with Anger and Danger, which
links in with the Symbolism of the image;
The Collision of Two completely different
Walks of Life, and feelings of Apprehension
towards Strangers. Plus, Red is often
associated with Rock, due to the
Aggressiveness of the Genre. As well as Red,
Black is also used throughout. This is also
another Shade associated with the Rock
Genre because of the Ominous Elements of
the Genre in terms of Song Meanings. The
Male on the Left is also in mostly Black, and
the image has many shaded Dark Areas,
linking with the Colour Scheme.
Meaning Behind the Image – The Male
on the Right is wearing Traditional Monk
Uniform, and the Male on the Left is
dressed in a Black Shirt, Jeans, and
Fingerless Gloves and is Smoking. The
band spoke about on their Website when
the Art Work was released how they
wanted to represent the idea of Old and
New Clashing, and Tradition and Change
Coming Together.
Art Work and Music Video Link – In terms of the Art Work and the Videos released linking, I don’t think there
really is a link to be honest. The range of Videos released was called ‘The Young Blood Chronicles’ (Young Blood
being the name given to the Group of Fall Out Boy Fans) and the two Males featured on the Art Work do not
actually feature in any of the Videos. The Videos themselves are quite Fictional Based and very Un-Realistic, but
Fall Out Boy are known to create Videos based on Un-Realistic Scenarios (for example, their video for ‘A Little
Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More Touch Me’ involves Vampires). The Young Blood Chronicles was very well
thought out, and each band Member played a specific Character, and Social Media was a part of keeping the Fans
updated on who had died in the Videos, who was Ill Health/Close to Dying, and who was responsible for the
Deaths/Injuries of the Characters. They are very confusing at times, but that’s Fall Out Boy for you.
Shallow Focus Shot – A Shallow Focus
Shot has been used on the Cover of the
‘Save Rock and Roll’ Digi Pak in order to
make the Two Featured Models stand out
more to the person who is looking at the
Cover. The Background is blurred, and you
can just about make out what is there,
when compared to the two Males.
Positioning of the Band Name and Album Title – The text has
been positioned in the Centre of the image. I believe that this
enables it to stand out, however it doesn’t take the attention away
from the Image. Also, the Text is just big enough for you to clearly
see, in order for you to know who created the album, and what the
Title of it is. Also, ‘Save Rock and Roll’ makes you think about
linking the Title to the Featured Image, and how they fit together.
