  • 3. • Our Non European Partner Universities: University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) University of Dalhousie, Canada University of Stellenbosch, South Africa Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia Fudan University in Shanghai, China Nehru University in Delhi, India

Sustainability in the application: A.3 Course Management, visibility and sustainability measures (20% of the max. score)This part includes following requirements:• the cooperation mechanisms within the consortium (A 3.1)• the contribution of the Partner Institutions and financial management of the scholarships (A 3.2)• Development and Sustainability plan to ensure the continuity of the program also beyond the period of Community funding - Quality Management (A 3.3)• promotion measures of the consortium to increase visibility and attractiveness (A 3.4)

Cooperation mechanisms within the consortium (A 3.1)Which information is important to be included in your Application?• role of the partners in the EMMC Implementation tasks - financial, evaluation, student support, promotion/marketing strategies• governing bodies of the consortium – like regular meetings• EMMC Consortium agreement• students involvement in the course coordination and organization – Feed-back System• participation of external actors - f. e. supervisory boards
  • 6. EMGS – How are we doing it? (A3.1)- Practical Aspects• Cooperation Agreements between all the Partner Universities• We award Joint degree and double degree – depending on the national laws• Our Consortium meets at least twice a year – Summer and Winter School to discuss the development of the course program, administrative issues and to have extensive feed-back sessions with the students• Boards for Student selection and exam-regulations• Board for Curriculum-Development (together with Non EU-Partner Universities• Advisory Board including our associated partners - like companies, research institutes etc.• Promotion through Website, partner universities

Contribution of the Partner Institutions andfinancial management of the scholarships (A 3.2)Which information is important to be included in your Application?• Level and quality of human, financial and other types of resources dedicated by each of the partners• Distribution of the grant, the consortium lump sum and the students contribution to the participation costs among the partners• Possible other additional funding sources
  • 8. EMGS – How are we doing it? (A3.2)- Practical Aspects Part I• Payment of Grants is administrated and coordinated from the our Consortium Leader, University of Leipzig and paid to the students after the EU-regulations• Consortiums Lump sum is also administrated by the University of Leipzig• The students contribution to the participation costs administrated by University of Leipzig, distributed to the partners once a year
  • 9. EMGS – How are we doing it? (A3.2)- Practical Aspects Part II• University of Leipzig founded out of the experiences of the program in 2008 a new institute called: Global and European Studies Institute (GESI)• All European Partner Universities have coordination offices for scientific and administrative coordination• Our team at the University of Vienna has a close cooperation with the International office, but offers much more additional service to the incoming students and Scholars. Which would not be possible to be offered by the International office.• The service includes: housing, course registration, enrolment, city registration, opening bank accounts, help with Visa and residence permit issues, pick-up service by their arrival, arrangement for social activities, person who they can reach in emergency cases 24hours
  • 10. EMGS – How are we doing it? (A3.2)- Practical Aspects Part III• We expect and hope for additional funding through our close cooperation with our associated members of the consortium• We plan to create additional scholarships in cooperation with the associated members for different occupational fields• Our Master Course is 5100€ for Non EU students and 3600,-€ for European Students.• Fee Waiver Policy – created a transparent application and selection process for Fee Waiver. Excellent students who could not afford studying this MC without a scholarship are offered reduction of fees.

Development and Sustainability plan - Quality Management (A 3.3)Which information is important to be included in your Application?• A concrete Sustainability plan involving all partners• Possible involvement of Associated Members in a Sustainability plan• Possible Funding and Involvement of public and/or private organizations in the countries of the Universities
  • 12. EMGS – How are we doing it? (A3.3)- Practical Aspects• We had in the last years a lot more applications then study places. Reasons for this situation: Promotion of the Erasmus Mundus Programs by the EU Our Master Course has become more recognized Field of Global Studies is becoming more and more popular• Our Goals with Erasmus Mundus II: Through a new European Partner we have more study places Increase the number of students in the next years up to 120 Adding a new research field to our Master: Global Governance With the help of our new associated partners we plan to integrate the course even more into public interest• Very important is the constant Evaluation by our students and also from our partners
  • 13. Promotion measures of the consortium (A 3.4)Which information is important to be included in your Application?• Promotion strategy• Website – Design and Promotion• How to plan the visibility of the program
  • 14. EMGS – How are we doing it? (A3.4)- Practical Aspects• Call for Applications in scientific related Internet forums• Try to use the network of our Non EU-Partners• EMGS-Homepage (http://www.uni-leipzig.de/gesi/emgs/)• Network and Information of the International Offices of our EU-Partner universities• Information days at our Partner universities• Alumni Organisation EMGS• Organisation of scientific congresses in different research fields of Global Studies

EMGS – Facts & Figures in Vienna• In Vienna we started in 2005 with 6 Students who received an EU- grant• In the moment we have 46 students in Vienna – 25 1st year students (6 grants & 19 self paying) 21 2nd year students (8 grants & 13 self paying)• EMGS is integrated into the Master Global Studies and Global History• Vienna will host this years Graduation Ceremony and the 1st EMGS Alumni Meeting• Sponsored a student homepage created by Alumnis and current student to create the connection between the „generations www. globalistan.org
  • 16. EMGS – Facts & Figures• Since 2005 we had 4 Summer Schools in Innsbruck, Wroclaw, Leipzig and Eisenstadt• 2 Winter Schools 2008 & 2009 in Poland, Sniezka Mountains• 2 Graduation Ceremonies 2008 & 2009 in Leipzig
