  • You can also mention that the Teacher Guide comes free with a CD of the lesson plans as Word documents, so lessons can be edited/cut and pasted into teacher’s own planning grids.
  • This page is used when planning the unit. Go through drawing attention to: objectives for this unit unit overview children’s targets (in ‘child-speak’) prior learning (useful for assessment purposes) key aspects for learning vocabulary covered during that unit speaking and listening opportunities cross curricular links.
  • Go through, noting that there’s one lesson per spread, and drawing attention to the following features which are clearly signposted: Objectives Vocab covered during that lesson Three part lesson structure (Oral and mental starter, main teaching, plenary) Oral and mental starter: choose one from the strand indicates in the bank of starters in the front of the book Main teaching, including differentiation tips in the margin, and slides numbers which link to the software Pupil activities – show the cross reference to Pupil Book page/Differentiation Pack. This allows pupils to practise newly acquired knowledge. Opportunities for paired and group work.   • You may want to point out that layout and differentiation symbols are the same as for CPL. And also, the benefit of the objective being at the top of each page is that the child is clear on what they’re learning in each lesson
  • Adult-directed tasks can be used at any point in the year to check a chil/group’s understanding of a particular objective Self-assessment tasks are for the child to complete at the end of the unit, showing how well they understood the work Tests are taken at the end of each term, to indicate how children have performed during a term, and to inform future planning
