OFFICE OF THE DEPUTY GOVERNOR Speech delivered by Her Excellency Mrs. ‘Funmi OLAYINKA Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Nigeria, At the official presentation of relief materials to the Ekiti State Government by the National Emergency Management Agency on Thursday August 18, 2011, in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.The Director General NEMA,The South West co-ordinator and other officials of NEMA,General Manager, other officials of SEMA,Distinguished Guests, Gentlemen of the Press,Ladies and Gentlemen.On behalf of the Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency (Dr.) JohnKayode Fayemi, I am delighted to welcome you all to this veryimportant occasion of the presentation of relief materials to ourgovernment by the National Emergency Management Agency(NEMA).As a follow up to what GM SEMA said during his remarks ontransparency and accountability of this Government, it is thepleasure of this administration to have been identified as onegovernment that is being led by a Governor who is passionate aboutthe plight of the people of the state. At the beginning of our regimehere, we assured everyone that ours shall be a responsive andresponsible government that will stand by the people at all times, nomatter the situation in which they find themselves.Our people will readily attest to the fact that we have tried not torenege. OFFICE OF THE DEPUTY GOVERNORon our people is mitigated even as we build new trust aimed atraising standard of living.Our determination includes making sure that our people are fit atall times to contribute to the economic development of the Land ofHonor where we take pride in integrity, hard work and industry. It ispartly the reason why this administration is working round theclock to ensure that accountability and transparency becomes theorder of the day so that the commonwealth of the people arejudiciously managed.You will all recall that this state has witnessed one form of disasteror the other ranging from thunderstorm, flooding, fire, as well asrainstorm, between January 2011 and now. I want to remind usthat the government of Dr. Fayemi was able to demonstrate itssincerity of purpose and commitment to fulfilling its pledge to sharein the plight of the people by attending to over 800 victims of thesedisasters across the state.We are aware that the pains have been very excruciating for ourpeople, we know that whatever we have provided has not beenenough to guarantee full recovery of their losses, but we are happythat we have been responsive in the provision of palliative measureswhich have provided the initial succor that has prompted process ofrehabilitation.I want to place on record that the administration of Dr. JohnKayode Fayemi is a progressive and forward looking one andtherefore favorably disposed to collaborating with any group orindividual that is equally committed to raising the standard of thegood people of Ekiti State.May I, at this juncture note past assistance of the NationalEmergency Management Agency (NEMA) in alleviating the pains ofour people who in the recent past have been affected by disasters inwhich millions of Naira and lives in some cases have been lost.2 | Page Official Presentation of relief materials to the EkitiState Government by the National Emergency Management Agency onThursday August 18, 2011, in Ado-Ekiti.
OFFICE OF THE DEPUTY GOVERNORI want to urge all of us to work assiduously towards the preventionof disasters instead of running round to find solutions to them afterthe damage would have been done. It is the desire of thisgovernment to see that occurrences of disasters are reportedpromptly for immediate attention of affected agencies of government.On behalf of the peoples’ Governor, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi andthe honorable people of Ekiti, Ile Iyi, I want to appreciate the kindgesture of NEMA and its officials. We also solicit their continuedsupport in making poverty history from our state.On our part, we remain resolute on fulfilling our promises ascontained in the 8 point agenda of government. I also want toassure you that this government will ensure prudent managementof resources at all levels, including the ones that are being broughtto us by NEMA.On this note, I hereby take delivery of these relief materials to theGlory of God and for the good use of Ekiti people.
