2. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
First, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to Miss Pang Chia Yee, our lecturer
for giving us an opportunity to conduct a phycology research experiment for our final project.
We are extremely grateful to her for helping and guiding us throughout this whole project, which
helped us to complete the project on time. Next, we also like to express our deep gratitude to our
parents who are providing us the financial resources we need to prepare all the materials needed
and unwavering love in us along this project.
Furthermore, we would like to thank all the participants involved in this study for their
time. Along the surveying, we heartily thank all those who cooperated with the conduct of this
survey by filling in the survey form that provide us all the essential information to complete our
research experiment. Without their help, this survey could not have been carried out. In order to
preserve anonymity they cannot be named.
On the other hand, we would like to extend our sincere regards to our group members for
their hard work, contribution and cooperation to this project with their invaluable opinions and
suggestion to complete the project successfully. Besides, we also like to thank our college for
supporting us with resources. Lastly, the success and final outcomes of this project required a lot
of guidance and assistance from many people and I am highly fortunate for having this along the
completion of our project work.
4. ABSTARCT
In this project, the theme is about the public’s response, whether they accept a family
lifestyle where the husband does the housework and the wife goes to work outside or not. The
hypothesis of this project at its beginning was, the public will accept the lifestyle where the
husband goes to work outside and the wife does the housework, especially between genders,
most males will choose to work outside and most females will choose to do the housework.
In this project, 100 survey forms in paper, refer to appendix A was printed out and given
out to the public to be completed. Some of the problems that occurred while handing out the
survey form were, public’s rejection to participate in this survey. However, that problem was
countered as we approached more people and we had all the survey forms completed. We have
also generated an online survey form and distributed it to the public, we received 28 responses.
The results of the survey form are as follows, most males cannot accept a family lifestyle
where the husband does the housework and the wife goes to work outside, and they think that in
a family, the husband should go to work outside and the wife should do the housework and it is
better to have this kind of lifestyle. While on the other hand, most females can accept a family
lifestyle where the husband does the housework and the wife goes to work outside, most females
think that in a family there is no obligation that the husband must go to work outside and the
wife must do the housework, they think that a family can choose their own preferred lifestyle,
even though most females still think that it is better to have a family where the husband goes to
work outside and the wife do the housework.
In conclusion, from the research experiment that we have carried out, we can conclude
that the public responses vary between genders. Most males cannot accept the kind of lifestyle
where the husband does the housework and the wife goes to work outside, where most females
can accept. We also found out that most males think this kind of lifestyle is not good and that a
normal family should not have this kind of lifestyle, where most females think that this kind of
lifestyle is not a bad family lifestyle and a family have the right to choose their preferred lifestyle.
But, both genders agree that a family lifestyle where the husband goes to work outside and the
wife does the housework is still a better lifestyle than the one mentioned earlier.
5. INTRODUCTION
In the beginning of the semester, we had been told that we have to conduct a social
phycology research experiment and required to do a presentation for our final project. As the
final project is a group work, we had been divided into 4-5 members for each group. The whole
project carried about 40% marks. In this Social Psychology research project, the objective of this
project is to be able to conduct a simple social psychology research experiment, enhance
teamwork and leadership ability and encourage problem solving and creative thinking among the
students. The learning outcomes of this project are students will be able to conduct a
psychological research and apply research ethical consideration.
Basically, this project divided into two parts. Part one is to conduct the research by
creating a hypothesis, select a suitable research method on how we want to carry out our research,
execute our research, collect and analyze the data. After that, we need to write a research report
from all the data that had been collected in the research experiment. Then, part two is a group
presentation about all our research and data collected.
So, we had chosen the theme, “prejudice and discrimination” for our final project. Lastly,
we had decided to do the project about the public response, whether they can accept a family
lifestyle where the husband does the housework and the wife goes to work outside or not. In this
kind of lifestyle where both the husband and the wife have a different responsibility than most of
other families, we will see whether they can be accepted by the others or not, whether their
children will be discriminated or receive a negative effect on their life or live a normal life just
like any other children.
6. METHOD
1.5a Participants
The survey form was typed in a computer while in a discussion with all the group mates.
After a few rounds of discussion and questions towards the teacher about the survey form, the
survey form was finally completed and printed out. For 100 survey forms, a total number of 100
participants were required to help out by filling up the survey form. These participants in this
survey are volunteers. These participants will not be identified and the data collected from them
are strictly confidential. They have the right to reject participation if they do not want to
participate or feel uncomfortable with it.
1.5b Material/Apparatus
The materials used in this project are common objects in our daily lives. They are
computers to type out the form, printers to print out the form, papers for the volunteers to fill up
the form, pens for the participants to use while filling up the form and a file to keep the forms
nice and tidy. We were also using computer to do the online survey questionnaire to collect more
information for our research.
7. 1.5c Procedure
In the beginning, we were briefing by the lecturer about the research experiment that we
need to complete for our phycology’s final project. The brief was explained by the respective
lecturer which is Ms. Pang Chia Yee and the way to conduct a survey in a proper manner. After a
few questions about the project, all the students formed a group of 5 members by random. Then,
all the groups needed to choose a topic among the topics given to do the research experiment.
Then, we tried to understand about the purpose of the survey and the information we
want to collect for our report. Next, we drafted out the suitable questions that we had discussed
and formatted the questionnaire in orderly manner. Then, we showed it to the lecturer for
approval and tested on the questionnaire we had done to identify if any errors to be corrected.
After got the lecturer’s approval, we printed it out and sent the survey forms to our participants
within our college to collect the information. Besides, we also created an online survey through
the internet so that participants out of our college can also take part in our surveying, refer to
appendix B.
Once the survey was done, we analyzed all the data and recorded in a draft paper and
then typed it into Microsoft excel for the purpose of doing chart. Then, we started to proceed our
research report with the data that we had collected through the survey. Finally, we had done our
social psychology research experiment and report with the guidance of our lecturer.

15. DISCUSSION
The discussion for this project is a discussion among the group members and the lecturer
Ms. Pang Chia Yee. We discussed with the lecturer, Ms. Pang Chia Yee about the survey form,
the questions for the survey form, analysis data collected from the survey form, the research
report and the content of the research report.
The first discussion of this project was about the survey form. After we had chosen our
theme, which is “prejudice and discrimination”, we discussed about the topic for our project.
After a long discussion, we finally picked one of the suggestions from our group members. The
topic is about the public response, whether they can accept a family lifestyle where the husband
does the housework and the wife goes to work outside or not, this topic had been approved by
our lecturer, Ms. Pang Chia Yee in the discussion among the group members with her.
After we have chosen our topic, we moved to the next stage, which is to generate
questions for the survey form. The group members individually generated a few questions as
suggestions, and in our discussion we discussed and choose only the best questions. We later,
adjusted some of the questions to make it more suitable for the survey form. We then, generated
a survey form from the questions we have and present it to our lecturer, Ms. Pang Chia Yee.
After we discussed about the survey form and the questions with her, she gave us some advice to
change and to add a few questions as well as to make our survey form to be more presentable.
Later, after our questions and survey form had been approved by our lecturer, Ms. Pang
Chia Yee, we then proceed to the survey. We handed out the survey form to the public to collect
data for our research experiment. After all the survey forms had been completed, we recorded all
the data in an orderly manner. Later, we analyzed all the data collected, table charts and pie
charts were generated to show all the data collected from the survey.
Lastly, we discussed about the research report. We divided works for each member in the
research report, we had several discussions afterwards regarding the requirements of the research
report, the content of the research report, etc.
