Evaluation – question 2

 1. 1. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts (DVD digipak, Magazine advert)?
2. 2. Our Main Product
Obviously our main product was our music video. The purpose of a music video is to portray and advertise the song. After taking this into consideration we created a music video that was packed with action and excitement, that also told a story that could be represented in many different ways. Depending on how you read it. Overall we got a lot of positive feedback and I feel that the music video was very effective.
However we had to create a Magazine advert and Digipak, the ancillary texts, to compliment the music video.
3. 3. This was the first draft of our digipak. The problem that we found with this draft was that it was too plain and the colours didn’t really represent the song. Therefore we desided to make a completely different digipak which is where our final version comes in
4. 4. This is the second and final version of our digipak, it has better aesthetics and filled with more information. It doesn’t look as plain anymore. I feel that the combination of this text and our music video are really effective with eachother. Just by looking at this text you can already get a rough idea of what the music video is going to look like. We used the colour red as that was a key colour in the actual music video and it gives a scenes of danger and action , which links to the music video. Overall I feel that the digipak is a good representation of the music video because of the colours and the fact it is pack with pictures and text, which also represent all the action and excitement within our music video.
5. 5. This is the first draft of our magazine advert
This is the second and final draft of our magazine advert
The main difference between both version of the magazine advert is the colour of the background. I chose the red background with guitars over the blue one and it best represents the music video. It combines with it better. Plus it sticks with the colour scheme of red that we used in the digipak. As on the digipak you can effective tell what sort of genre the music video is going to be. This is because the magazine advert uses a lot of red and other bright colours in the background, this emphasis excitement as a lot of stuff is compact. Overall I feel it combines well with the music video as it gives a good representation of what you are going to expect.
