Chapter 8 – Lost!
The bright lights took form and the two Pokémon appeared at the same. In front of me sat a small,
worried looking Weedle, the Caterpie was in front of James. The two Pokémon looked up at their new
trainers; it was hard to read the emotions on their faces seen as all they really had on them were two
eyes. I knelt down in front of my newlt caught Weedle and smiled at it. “Hi there” The Weedle
immediately curled itself up into a ball, it was clear that it was a shy Pokémon. I lifted it off the ground
and Aipom climbed onto my shoulders to take a closer look at the new member to the team. I looked
at James who was holding his newly caught Caterpie who seemed a lot feistier than my Weedle. I
laughed at James, struggling with the Caterpie who was trying to crawl over his shoulder and escape, it
was then that Weedle poked its head out and looked at its friend. It made a odd noise in my arms
which I took to be mean it was laughing. I carefully placed it on the ground and, unlike Aipom, it didn’t
make a run for it. Instead, it squirmed up to my leg as if afraid it would be attacked if it was out in the
open for too long. By now James had taken control of Caterpie who seemed to decide that James was
a worthy trainer for it.
I then remembered why we were out on Route 30 in the first place, to train. We had been out here for
over an hour and we had only defeated one Pokémon each. I turned to Aipom, “Come on Aipom, let’s
look for some more Pokémon to train on!” I called Weedle back into its Pokéball, I wanted Aipom to
get some good training in first, and then me and Aipom ran off into the woods. As I reached the
outskirts, I turned to James, “You coming?”
“Nah, I think I’m gonna stay here for a while” He replied
“OK, see ya later” I turned and ran to catch up with Aipom. I caught up with him squaring up to
another Caterpie, preparing himself for battle. “Alright, Aipom, use Scratch!” But Aipom didn’t use
Scratch, instead, he ran up to the bug and slapped it with the tail on his tail, the Caterpie seemed to
flinch and didn’t attack back. “Hey, was that Astonish?” Aipom turned to me with a smug grin on his
face and held his arm off, showing his muscles. Behind him, I saw that the Caterpie had recovered
itself and was charging at Aipom with a powerful Tackle. “Aipom look out!” Seemingly without
thinking, Aipom leapt into the air, did a backflip over the charging Caterpie and landed smoothly
behing it. “Wow, nice dodge.” I said quietly, stunned at Aipom’s surprising gymnastic skills. “Finish it
with Scratch!” Aipom did as he was told and jumped above the helpless bug, his claws glowing and
then swiped at his enemy. Caterpie was defeated and fled into the bushes. “That was great Aipom!” I
congratulated him but he was already off to find more battles.
We continued battling the wild Pokémon over and over again; it felt like we were unstoppable.
Eventually, after Aipom had taken out yet another Caterpie, we both flopped onto the floor. It was
then that I realised how dark it was and that I had no idea where we were. I stood up and looked in all
directions, I could see for a few metres but then it was just utter darkness. I called out for James but I
got no reply. I knew it was hopeless; I was going to have to spend the night out here in the forest and
find my way out in the morning.
I pulled my bag off my back and dropped it at the base of a large tree. Aipom sat down next to it
looking tired, I got out the pot of Pokémon food and handed it to Aipom who started eating happily. I
was pulling a sleeping bag out of my bag when Aipom walked up and prodded at the Pokéball in my
pocket and shook the pot he was holding. I knew what he meant and let Weedle out to have some
food as well. Both Pokémon ate together while I dug through my bag and found a bread roll and a
packet of crisps. I ate them both in a matter of minutes; I was hungrier than I thought. After, I got
Weedle back in its Pokéball and lay back while Aipom squirmed into my sleeping bag and lay next to
me. I wasn’t surprised that he fell asleep almost immediately. “Goodnight Aipom” I said with a yawn, I
closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep with the sound of Hoot-Hoots gliding between the trees and
calling out to each other.
