MANGROVE PLANTATION BY DEV SALT PRIVATE LIMITED
NATURE HAS PLAYED A VERY IMPORTANT PART IN
THE INDIAN RELIGION AND CULTURE. IT’S
CONTRIBUTION HAS BEEN AESTHETIC AS WELL AS
MEDICINAL. FROM TIME IMMEMORIAL THE FLORA
AND FAUNA HAS BEEN AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE
INDIAN FAMILY. SAINTS, SAGES, HOLY MEN AND
PRIESTS HAVE BEEN TREATING NATURE AS THEY
WOULD TREAT ANY HUMAN BEING.
THE SEA BEACHES, MANGROVE FORESTS,
CORALS, MARINE LIFE AND OTHER
ATTRACTIONS FOR MIGRATORY BIRDS
ARE IN CONSTANT DANGER. THE GOVT. IS
TRYING TO PROTECT THEM BY
IMPLEMENTING VARIOUS REGULATIONS.
IN INDIA THE COASTAL REGULATION
ZONES ( C R Z ) ACT WAS INTRODUCED IN
1991. THEREAFTER THE ACT WAS
AMENDED AND UPGRADED IN 2011. IN
SPITE OF THIS OUR WETLANDS AND
MANGROVE FORESTS ARE DIMINISHING
AT AN ALARMING RATE.
THE MAIN CAUSES ARE THE
EXPANSION AS WELL AS
DEVELOPMENT OF NEW PORTS,
JETTIES, FISHERIES, INDUSTRIES,
TOWNSHIPS, HOLIDAY RESORTS AND
YES, ALSO ENCROACHMENTS.
THIS HAS RESULTED IN DEGRADATION
OF MANGROVE FOREST.
A NEWS ITEM OF THE TIMES OF INDIA
IS SHOWN HERE.
THE GOVT. HAS RECEIVED A COMPLAINT
FROM A CIVIL SOCIETY ACTIVIST, WHO
HAPPENS TO BE A MEMBER OF THE
STATE – SPONSORED GUJARAT ZONE
MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY, THAT HEAVY
MANGROVES PLANTATION IS IN THE
DANGER OF BEING WIPED OUT.
- TIMES OF INDIA
As Wetlands are diminishing the shelters for migratory
birds are also vanishing. The result : birds are going
towards the townships and are being killed.

Flamingos slaughtered for meat in Kutch
TNN Jan 4, 2012, 03.03AM IST AHMEDABAD:
Wildlife experts and enthusiasts from around the world
will congregate in the air-conditioned environs of
Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar as part of the Global Bird
Watcher's Conference on January 19. But it would make more
sense if they meet in the marshlands of Kutch and surrounding
areas, which have become a graveyard of some of the most
endangered winged species in the country - flamingos.

In addition to the above all the
creeks and rivers are silting.
The satellite images of saline
wetlands of India for the years 1991
and 2011 should be analyzed. That
would confirm how much wetlands
have diminished naturally, officially
and/or through encroachments.
In view of above this work shop should recommend
to the Govt. of India the following proposals :-
All Wetlands should be reserved for the
development of mangrove forests and
shelters for migratory birds.
All wetlands should be under an
authority at national level with the
respective state units.
All state governments should be
advised to estimate how much of wetlands
have been encroached against C R Z norms.
