When faced with the daunting task of undertaking an LCA many companies are scared off by the complications and resource intensive process. There are many barriers for any company undertaking an LCA.
Besides the challenges of conducting an LCA such as setting an accurate scope, choosing realistic boundaries, deciding which databases to use and what impact categories to consider. Companies are faced with other practical daily challenges such as funding, staffing, expertise, supply chain constraints and short deadlines. All these issues and many more do not make LCA’s attractive. Therefore many companies and especially SME’s do not undertake LCA.
Providing SME’s with sector based web tool, free training and sector specific data it is hoped that LCA will be become more attractive and feasible. The LCA to Go project will provide SME’s with a practical, easy to use and relevant LCA web tool.
