  2. 2. TweenTribune is a free, not-for-profitonline newspaper for kids, aged 8–15. Itis updated daily with stories fromthe Associated Press that are chosenbased on relevancy to pre-adolescents.Tweens can post comments to thestories which are moderated by theirteachers, and teachers can use the siteas a resource for meeting No Child LeftBehind requirements for reading, writingand computer skills.Industry: Newspaper and PublishingBusiness Model: Not for ProfitHeadquarter: Norfolk, USAEbizons Customer Since: 2008Alan Jacobson,Managing Director ofBrassTacksFounder, TweenTribbune
  3. 3. Alan Jacobson, former design director of The Virginian-Pilot Managing Director ofBrassTacks has more than 30 years of experience in the communications industry inmultiple domains - photographer, designer, editor, project manager, focus groupmoderator and publishing systems analyst. One fine evening while helping his 10 year old daughter with her homework, Alannoticed that she lacked interest and faced difficulty in understanding current affairsand world news. It occurred to him that the possible reason could be the number ofirrelevant and not so interesting articles for children of her age that she has to browsethrough. So Alan devised a tool to compile all such news that could be of relevance and interestto her daughter. And he was fascinated by the interest his daughter showed in readingand grasping the news and current affair articles. From that time onward, homeworkbecame fun for her!TweenTribune –Devised as a tool by a fatherto help his 10 year olddaughter with her homework
  4. 4. Triggered by fatherly concern, thissmall event marked the foundation ofTweenTribuneAn innovative medium to inculcate reading habits in children and keep them educated.
