2. WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?
YouTube is set to take on Spotify when it launches a paid music subscription
service.
The service will allow viewers to watch videos without the interruption of ads and
they will be able to save the music videos to watch offline.
3. YOUTUBE MUSIC KEY
To begin with YouTube Music Key will roll out in invite-only beta and will provide
its limited user base with six months of free listening and watching.
Google will charge former beta users £7.99 per month and everyone else will
pay £9.99 to subscribe to the service.
A subscription to Music Key will include a subscription to Google Play Music,
Google’s music-streaming service, which has over 30 million songs. The two
services will remain separate even though they will overlap at some points.
4. HOW WILL MUSIC KEY WORK?
Playlists and individual videos can be listened to and watched online, or they can
be saved for offline viewing.
The videos can use be played in the background if you are using your device for
other purposes, a feature the current YouTube app doesn’t support.
When searching for an artist, discoverability has been improved, so you will be
able to see their full discography as well as the content you were looking for.
