Texas Environmental Data System 2009 - Presentation Transcript
Texas Environmental Data System (TEDS)
What is TEDS?
TEDS is a data management system that captures technical data (geologic data, analytical data, and spatial data) in an automated fashion and interfaces with other applications, such as ArcGIS, to enable viewing, evaluation, and modeling of the data.

Why does the TCEQ need a data management system?
The Remediation Division receives a large volume of environmental data on remediation projects but currently has no electronic method of organizing or evaluating the data.
Texas Environmental Data System (TEDS)
What will TEDS do?
TEDS will:
improve evaluation and decision making on contaminant release sites,
reduce time to extract information from reports,
allow for regional and programmatic evaluation and comparison,
allow the ability to view environmental and geographic data,
improve agency awareness of and response to environmental problems.

What does this mean for you?
Follow the instructions on how to submit analytical, spatial, and geologic data electronically.
Collect geospatial information on sampling locations so GIS applications can be used to locate sites and evaluate site conditions.
Note that collection of geospatial data and submittal of data electronically will eventually become mandatory.

What does this mean for you?
You do not have to buy special software, but you will download the data checker application and submit data in a specific format for input into the database.
Many laboratories are already supplying analytical data electronically. Labs will have to reformat their data fields to match TEDS.

What is the status of TEDS?
The TCEQ purchased the EQuIS data management system software. We have developed our TCEQ-specific format, are testing the system, and will then provide instructions and training on how to submit data electronically.
