    1. CDM Methodology Workshop on Gas Flaring Time: 10:00 to 14:00 Wednesday 3 December 2008 Venue: NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky, Amsterdam While gas flaring contributes about 400 million tons of CO2e in annual GHG emissions, to date only six gas flaring CDM projects have been registered out of almost 1200. This workshop looks at the methodological issues and challenges to increase the contribution of CDM for gas flaring reductions in these areas: Gas capture and marketing • Alternative uses of gas • Gas re-injection • Agenda: A. Introduction to Gas Flaring and CDM (World Bank/GGFR, 15 min) B. Gas Flaring within a Sustainable Development Perspective (Thomas Eid, 15 min) C. Methodology and Gas Capture (2.5 hours) Presentations: (Paul Parks, Chair) Introduction to the methodology issues and points to consider (Paul Parks, 15 min) i. The current methodologies (Alexandrina Platonova and Steve Ross, 30 min) ii. Alternative Uses to Reduce Gas Flaring (Anders Pederstad, 20 min) iii. Gas Reinjection (Steinar Njå, 20 min) Panel Discussion: (45 min - focuses on the methodology issues) D. Conclusion and Next Steps (30 min) Panel and open discussion on how to move forward The workshop is designed for technical experts and policy makers and is by invitation.
