    Notes on slide 1

Thom: Hello, everyone. I’d like to welcome you to the first program in Emerson Network Power’s 2009 Business Innovators Series– “ Measuring Data Center Efficiency: Tools to Demonstrate the Benefits and ROI of Enhanced Energy Efficiency ” I’m Thom Gall, and I’ll be your host. As you know, our Webcast program is certified by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training. So attending a 1-hour Web cast qualifies you to earn one-tenth of a CEU training credit. Just check the box in your survey following the Webcast, and you’ll receive your certificate by mail within 2-3 weeks. Today, we’ll look the latest thinking in data center energy efficiency, including ways that you can demonstrate the ROI, performance-enhancing potential and space and capacity saving-benefits of enhancing the energy efficiency of your data center. This presentation deck will be available to download after the Web cast – check the link in your thank-you e-mail. I’ll give a brief introduction of Emerson Network Power and its Liebert products and services, then we will move on to our presenters.

Thom: Before I introduce our speakers for today’s program, I’d like to remind you that you can ask questions through the console throughout the Webcast, and we’ll select several to be answered by our speakers during our closing Q&A. To ask a question, click the questions tab on the bottom of your screen. Type your question in the box along with your company name and submit it. In case we run out of time during our Web cast, we will follow up on your question via e-mail. Now, on to our presenters. Joining us today is Doug Washburn, Analyst with Forrester Research. Doug’s research helps IT executives focusing on Green IT, Green Business and IT Leadership Skills to successfully approach Green IT, determine strategy, and then move from Green IT awareness to action. Welcome Doug. Doug: Thanks Thom, I’m happy to be here today (ad lib)… Thom: And we’re glad to have you– thanks for joining us. Also joining us is Jack Pouchet, Director of Energy Initiatives for Emerson Network Power. Jack, you joined us for a webcast last spring to introduce Emerson Network Power’s “Energy Logic” model, and we’re excited to have you with us again to discuss the latest developments in “Energy Logic.” Jack: Thanks Thom, I’m looking forward to sharing the latest in Energy Logic with our audience today. Jack: Well then, let’s get started. Doug, tell us about the latest trends you’re seeing related to data center energy efficiency.

…more efficient data center into the future.

…to invest time and capital wisely.

… critical to succeeding with data center energy efficiency measures.

    …fastest energy source—energy efficiency

…impress upon you how important energy efficiency is.

…especially within the data center and IT, is incredibly high right now.

…report to Congress on server and data center energy efficiency.

….Servers and data centers alone account for 1.5% of total US energy consumption.

    …$7.4 billion annual electricity cost.

…Doesn’t translate to lower energy costs, so what I’d…

… What you can see is that at 100% utilization

…but when it’s at active idle...

…which is often incredibly expensive in data centers.

    …go absolutely hand in hand.

…because that’s where most of the initiatives are being focused.

We’ll need to wrap up the questions now, but we will have one of our experts answer your questions via e-mail if we didn’t catch you during the Webcast. You can download these slides now by clicking on the Download Slides button, on the bottom right-hand side of your console. And, your colleagues can view today’s session on demand beginning Thursday at www.liebert.com. Don't forget to look for information on our next Business Innovators Webcast on May 20, when we’ll discuss Strategies for Finding and Unlocking Hidden Power Capacity in your Data Center Infrastructure. You can register for the webcast by going to the Emerson Network Power multimedia portal at liebert.com under “Support.” In the meantime, you can now connect with Emerson Network Power on Twitter or YouTube! Follow “at-Emerson-Net-Power” on Twitter for breaking news and information including webcasts, case studies and white papers. You can also visit the “Emerson-Network-Power” Channel on YouTube for video case studies and interviews with Jack and other Emerson Network Power executives. One final note: the survey will be presented as a "pop up." To make sure your pop-up blocker if off for this effort, you’ll want to press and hold the "control" key.   Go ahead and press that now.  On behalf of Emerson Network Power. I’d like to thank you all for your time and attention today, we hope to see you again in May. Sign Off

    8. The data center is an initial target According to the Wall Street Journal, IBM’s CEO, Samuel Palmisano, suggested to U.S. President Barak Obama an: “ Executive order mandating that the government convert all its data center to be "green" data centers , optimized for energy efficiency, within three years. IBM, Hewlett Packard Co., EMC Corp and Dell Inc. among other hardware providers, have all built major businesses helping customers make their data centers more energy efficient.”
    9. Data centers consume vast amounts of energy and costs
    10. Data centers consume vast amounts of energy and costs In 2006: “[US] Servers and data centers alone account for 1.5% of total US energy consumption .”
    11. Data centers consume vast amounts of energy and costs In 2006: “[US] Servers and data centers alone account for 1.5% of total US energy consumption .” By 2011: “[US] Energy consumption by servers and data centers could nearly double again, representing a $7.4 billion annual electricity cost .”
    12. Data centers are plagued with low levels of utilization. . . 16. For now, green IT = energy reduction Source: December 15, 2008, “Market Overview: A Slowing Economy Won’t Slow Down Corporate Green IT Initiatives” Forrester report
    17. And green IT and financial value go hand in hand, especially in the data center “ Sustainability is good for the environment, but it makes good business sense too. . . . It is this economic advantage that makes our efforts truly sustainable.” “ Greening our IT will help Sprint spend less cash today, ask for less capital into the future, and allow IT to support business needs more quickly with a more responsible IT asset life cycle.”
