  • 2. WHY EMEDEN KENYA• Keiyo district is located in the dry lands of Kenya and is divided into three topographical regions; the Highlands, the Escarpment and the Valley. The Escarpment and the Valley is semi arid• About 50% of the population in the district live in absolute poverty, hence rely heavily on government relief food distribution.• EMEDEN Kenya wishes to be part of the solution to create sustainable agriculture in these parts of Kenya
  • 3. SOME SOBERING FACTS•About 80% of Kenya is classifiedas Dry lands with 25% of thepopulation live here•65% of the population in drylands live below the poverty linecompared to national average of26%

EMEDEN KENYA STRATEGIC INTERVENTION Organize Farmer groups through outreach and by building governance and financial management capacity for new and existing groups FARMER Use the groups as Value Addition training forums and Marketing FARMERS for on-farm FARMER AND EMEDEN GROUPS training and KENYA education including easing access to inputsHarvesting and Bulking FARMER Build capacity for GROUPS AND EMEDENthrough strategic collection EMEDEN KENYA sustainable on-farmcentres for Value Addition KENYA production
  • 6. THE PROJECT • EMEDEN Kenya is piloting a contract farming project with selected groups of farmers to grow sunflowers and aloe vera integrated with beekeeping. Farmers engage on farm production of aloes, Sunflower and bees FARMERSBuilds the capacity offarmers for sustainable on-farm production Collection, EMEDEN Kenya Bulking, Value Addition and EMEDEN Kenya plus Farmers, Markets plus prospective (Product and players Market Development)

THE FUTURE• EMEDEN Kenya expects to help create a limited liability company to scale up the pilot project.• It will be owned by farmers in conjunction with interested investors• Local professional of Keiyo living in Nairobi and other urban centres have shown interest in the project as prospective shareholders.• A Business plan is being prepared to be submitted to a local Bank, family Bank, including a submission to Kenya Investment Promotion Council to solicit for private investors
