6. Mobility in the city is not about
transport, it works only when
transport is connected to the structure
of life. We must find the design of the
city.
The secret of mobility os all about
sharing.
Scale is not a problem. Money
shouldn´t be either. Urban problems
can be solved with a matrix of co
responsability.
Sostenibility is an equation between
what is spent and what is saved.
Lessons from a changemaker, Jaime Lerner
Why need TOD in Mexico? An example in sprawling Mexico City
Because even though Mexico City has an importan mass transit system of nearly 350 kms, only a small share of the housing development is happenning in the inner city like this one on Colonia Condesa (built around 1930´s) where the traditional block design prove to be flexible and allow for new development and neighborhood revitalizacion
But most development is following the srawiling pattern, with cul de sac streets and small gated communities even in low income communities. How can we transform these neigborhoods in the future and create communities in the present?
So here a map with Mexico City mass transit and the more affluent type of development occurying in centrally located places like Condesa
An another map showing where most of the development is actually happening, far, far, far away of the existing mass transit network. How can we connect these people to the city? (red dot-red arrow, far upper right)
So bringing TOD to Mexico is before all, bringing equitity and accesibility to the majority of the people by allowing them to be part of the city.
