  • rickladd Rick Ladd , Chief Emergineer at Rick Ladd & Associates My pleasure, Sameer. I spent many years in an industry (aerospace; emphasis on the 'space'. I worked on the Space Shuttle Main Engine program for most of my career at Rocketdyne) that was mired in the practice of death by bullet-point. I absolutely abhor the use of large amounts of text and am most appreciative of presentations that tilt toward the graphical and allow the presenter to use his/her own words and thereby engage the audience more fully. I know how to read! I saw a tweet the other day in which it was said 'If you use PowerPoint, you're not a speaker; you're a presenter.' I don't happen to agree with that, or virtually any other black-and-white statement. As with many things, including the application of collaborative tools and processes to 'diff industries and unique needs', it depends. PowerPoint can be quite effective as an adjunct to speaking and teaching. Anyway, I hope I can hear you give this preso, as I value your perspective. Perhaps we'll have an opportunity to discuss it over dim sum, curry, or just some tea. I'll contact you in another venue about that. Thanks for your work, and your willingness to engage. It's refreshing and instructive. :) 1 year ago Reply

  • sameerpatel Sameer Patel , Partner at Sovos Group Thanks for the nod Rick.
I'm not a fan of craming stuff into my slides so they generally mean little w/out the accompanying talk. I expect to be giving it again this year in the US and other parts of the globe. With some refinements of course.
Interesting you bring up diff industries and unique needs as they craft relevant and practical strategies. This came up a lot in Milan, both on stage as well as in side conversations. Were seeing a lot of it in our work on the ground and its only natural that the gestation towards realizing collaborative gains are very different in each circumstance.
Again, thanks for taking a look :)

  • rickladd Rick Ladd , Chief Emergineer at Rick Ladd & Associates Good stuff, Sameer. As one who spent the past two decades in an organization with essentially a captive customer, and where safety outweighed virtually any and all other considerations, I find it interesting and valuable to see other, more pervasive perspectives.

Quite some time ago we were talking about concurrent engineering, which I consider to be somewhat of a pre-cursor to the concept of a collaborative enterprise. Despite the talk it remained mostly just that . . . talk. Now we are also looking to include both customers and suppliers, in fact the entire value chain, in our collaborative capabilities. It will be interesting to see how rapidly different industries and enterprises adapt to this new direction.

I would love to hear you talk this presentation, as I'm quite certain I'm missing out on some subtlety and nuance. I have so much to learn as I adapt to a very different enterprise approach, I'm looking for all the help I can get. Thanks for this instructive offering.
