Today, we made available Magento Enterprise Edition 1.14 and Magento Community Edition 1.9.

Magento Enterprise Edition 1.14 and Magento Community Edition 1.9, drastically reduce that barrier to entry, so merchants can get a tablet and smart phone friendly responsive site in about half the time as before.
In fact, it may now take less time to build a new responsive site than it did to build a desktop-only theme with previous versions.
The new reference theme, makes it easier for you to have consistent branding and the ability to make quick site changes to take advantage of new opportunities.
You may also see SEO benefits, as responsive design is Google’s preferred approach to mobile optimization.
In the latest release, we’ve streamlined PayPal Express Checkout by giving you the option to remove a step.
PayPal further helps you to close deals by automatically trying to bill alternative payment instruments when a customer’s credit card is rejected.
The indexing improvements started in Magento Enterprise Edition 1.13 have been extended to Solr in Magento Enterprise Edition 1.14.
Magento Enterprise Edition merchants can save time and experience faster admin performance because Solr indexing is now performed automatically in the background as the product catalog changes – this can also improve customer experience and conversion rates since your shoppers see up to date search results.
The new version also includes native support for Solr 3.6.2.
Our new responsive theme is a very compelling offering and we’re off to a fast start:
Hallhuber, is a trendy women’s fashion brand that operates 180 shops across Germany, France, Austria, Belgium and the UK.
They just launched their new responsive theme on April 29th and are using it for all countries and devices.
Another great example of how quick and easy the base theme in 1.14 is to adapt.
We are developing Magento 2 with these goals in mind:
Take the incredibly successful underlying code and make it even better.
Specifically, we are creating the capabilities that you, our community, asked for most.
You told us, - Make Magento easier to deploy, to maintain, and to scale
Make extensions and applications — a key advantage of the Magento platform — – easier to implement, test and maintain.
- You said make it easier to customize out-of-the box features and easier to upgrade
These goals required massive architectural changes to be made.
The result: Magento 2 will be the most modern, flexible, scalable and open commerce platform in the world.
Because of the improvements in the platform, you’ll see us go with a much more rapid release schedule, breaking up the multi-year release cycle.
I have had the pleasure of working in Agile for over a decade now.
The Magento development organization is an extremely passionate team, executing one of the best agile methodologies that I have had the pleasure to work in to date.
Our delivery cadence, features and scope, is proving to be an extremely accurate and measured velocity.
We are releasing to developers first to give them ample time to get up to speed on Magento 2 and update their extensions and customizations prior to general availability.
Once the Magento 2 platform is in place, we will deliver in our iterative Agile release cadences.
This will ensure that we are delivering smaller sets of new features on a more frequent basis so that merchants can leverage new functionality sooner.

We’ve also held two very popular webinars where our engineers presented key Magento 2 architectural changes.
