Porn islamic perspective

  1. 1. What is pornography?  Pornography is defined in the English language as an indecent form of art or literature.  Islam also views it as indecent and terms it as faahisha in the Quran.  Allah says in Quran : "Say: The things that my Lord has indeed forbidden are: shameful deeds whether open or secret."
  2. 2. Fahishah is translated as "shameful deeds  Fahisha is every bad deed that is noticeably ugly to human beings.  in the Quran, Allah (swt) refers to zina, adultery and fornication as a fahishah.  Allah (swt) also calls the crime of the people of Lut (as), homosexuality, a fahishah.  To view pictures of nudity, sexual suggestion, intimacy between two people, or a person of the opposite gender who is improperly covered (Islamically) is also an ugly sin to anyone who wishes to adhere to piety.
  3. 3. Where do you find pornography?  Pornographic magazines  XXX movies and videos  TV • Ads • Dramas like Bay Watch • Sports events like swimming and skating • Beauty contests • Underwear ads • Actors with tight dresses showing all their body parts  Internet pornographic sites  Magazine ads  Pornographic books
  4. 4. How the porn materials are made?  Most of the girls and women are forced to perform in these movies after being kidnapped from their homes or home countries and traded as "sex slaves" into some foreign country  For child porn, very young girls and boys are used.  Nearly all these children die or are killed as they loose their "usability" very quickly.  Every person who thinks of watching porn should examine their conscience as to what type of "industry" they are supporting.
  5. 5. A MULTI BILLION DOLLAR INDUSTRY  Pornography is a $12-$13 billion- a-year industry –  More than the combined annual revenues of the Coca-Cola and McDonnell Douglas corporations. (From an Affair of the Mind by Laurie Hall)  Pornographic entertainment on the Internet constituted the third largest sector of sales in cyberspace, with estimated annual revenues of $100 million.  Such marketing success has fueled an increase in the size of the pornography industry –  $10 billion annually, according to conservative estimates. (Anthony Flint, Skin Trade Spreading Across U.S., Boston Sunday
  6. 6. Use of porn on net and video  HITS ON A PORN SITE: Playboy’s headquarters received 4.7 million hits (electronic visits) in a recent seven day period. (Promise Keepers website) PORN VIDEO RENTALS: Porn video rentals soared to 665 million in 1996, accounting for 13.3% of video rentals in America. Profits of sales and rentals of porn videos was $4.2 billion in 1996. (USA Today, & UPI News)
  7. 7. ADDICTION TO PORNOGRAPHY  Pornography consumption can be as “mood altering” and as addictive as narcotics. (A study by Richard Drake, assistant professor at Brigham Young University College of Nursing).  Studies show pornography is progressive and
  8. 8. PORN AND SEX ADDICTION  The average age of first time contact of pornography among sex addicts is 11. (American Family Association Outreach
  9. 9. PORNOGRAPHY’S EFFECTS ON FATHERS  More sophisticated analysis reveals that men who had “purchased pornographic materials in the past year” had significantly lower marital, fathering and family-life satisfaction  This is in comparison to those who had not purchased pornographic materials in the past year. (National Center for Fathering
  10. 10. PORNOGRAPHY AND SEXUAL ASSAULT  Research gathered over the past few decades demonstrates that  Pornography contributes to sexual assault, including rape and the molestation of children. (Pornography Victims Compensation Act of 1992, U.S. Senate Comm. on the Judiciary)
  11. 11. PORNOGRAPHY’S EFFECT ON SEXUAL RELATIONSHIPS  Pornography distorts the natural development of personality.  If the early stimulus is pornographic photographs, the adolescent can be conditioned to become aroused through photographs.  Once this pairing is rewarded a number of times, it is likely to become permanent.  The result to the individual is that it becomes difficult for the person to seek out relations with appropriate persons. (Jerry Bergman, Ph.D., The Influence of Pornography on Sexual Development: Three Case Histories, IX Family Therapy
  12. 12. WHO CONSUMES PORNOGRAPHY  A primary pornography consumer group is boys between ages 12 - 17.9  (Attorney General’s Final Report on Pornography)
  13. 13. Some Statistics on Pornography and Internet Intervention  Over 30% of sites on the World Wide Web are pornographic” (USA Today). In over 99% of the hits directed to our site, the person performing the search was looking for pornography, many looking for child pornography.  To think, 99% used pornography search words inspired our project, Internet Intervention.  Internet Intervention is a network of computers, hosting hundreds of websites, which direct the keyword searcher of child pornography to an Intervention Help Site.  (From the website of the Tonya Flynt Foundation, an anti-pornography website. Tony Flynt is the daughter of
  14. 14. ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE  0 people, eat of what is in the earth, permissible and good, and do not follow in the footsteps of Satan; indeed, for you he is an open enemy. He only orders you evil and immodesty, and that you allege about Allah what you do not know. (Verses168 -169)
  15. 15. Muslim is to use what is permissible and pure  Sahl ibn 'Abdullah ® has said: "Salvation depends on three things - eating halal, fulfilling (divine)obligations and following the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet (SAW).  The word khutuwat is the plural form of (khutwah )which is the distance between the two feet when striding. Here the khutuwat of Shaytan means Satanic deeds.  The expression (innama yamurukum: 'he only orders you) means instigating a suggestion in the heart.  The word fahsha covers what is immodest. Some commentators have said that su' here signifies sin
  16. 16. Satanic and Angelic Suggestions  'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (RA) reported that the Holy Prophet (SAW) said:  "The son of Adam is influenced by a suggestion from the Satan and a suggestion from the angel.  The Satanic suggestion has the effect of bringing forth the expedient gains in evil deeds and thereby opening the avenues of negating the truth,  Angelic suggestion promises reward and success for good deeds and leaves the happy effect of a heart in peace at its attestation of the truth."
  17. 17. INJUNCTIONS FOR MODESTY (Noor,24:30-31)
  18. 18. Surah Noor,24:30-31  Say to the believing men that they must lower their gazes and guard their private parts; it is more decent for them. Surely Allah is All-Aware of what they do.  And say to the believing women that they must lower their gazes and guard their private parts, and must not expose their adornment, except that which appears thereof, and must wrap their bosoms with their shawls, and must not expose their adornment except to their husbands or their fathers or the fathers of their husbands, or to their sons or the sons of their husbands, or to their brothers or the sons of their brothers or the sons of their sisters, or to their women, or to those owned by their right hands, or male attendants having no (sexual) urge, or to the children who are not yet conscious of the shames of women.  And let them not stamp their feet in a way that the adornment they conceal is known. And repent to Allah 0
  19. 19. Lowering the gaze  The word Yaghuddu is derived from ghadd ,which means to bring down or to lower, (Raghib)lowering of eyes or to keep eyes down as enjoined in the verse, means to turn the eyes from something which is prohibited to be seen by Shari'ah  (Ibn Kathir). Ibn Hibban has given the explanation that to look at a non-Mahram woman with intent to have (sexual)pleasure is totally prohibited, and to look without any such motive is makruh (undesirable).  To look at any woman's or man's private parts of the body is included in this explanation (except in case of dire necessity, such as medical examination).  Peeping into anyone's house with the intent of finding out his secrets, and all such acts where looking is prohibited byShari'ah are all included in the injunction.
  20. 20. Protection of Chastity  (24:30)Protection of private parts is purported to express that all possible situations of satisfying unlawful sexual desires be guarded against.  In this, adultery, sodomy, lesbian act, masturbation and all such acts that fulfill unlawful lust and passions are prohibited.  The purpose of the verse is to prohibit all illicit acts for fulfilling unlawful passions.  For this purpose the initial and the ultimate acts have been mentioned rather clearly, and all those actions which fall in between them are also included in the prohibition.
  21. 21. Any act in disobedience of Allah is major sin  Ibn Kathir has related 'Ubaidah who said; 'Any act done in disobedience to Allah is a major sin, but the  Initial and ultimate acts are mentioned at the two ends of this verse'.  The initial act is to cast eye, and the ultimate is adultery.
  22. 22. Casting eye is a poisonous arrow  Abdullah Ibn Masood ® reported that the Prophet (SAW) said, 'Casting eye is a poisonous arrow among the arrows of Satan. Whoever turns away his eye fearing from Me (despite demand of the heart), I will give him such strong faith, the delight of which he will feel in his heart. (Tabarani, Ibn Kathir)  Jarir Ibn 'Abdullah al-Bajali ® reported that the Holy Prophet has advised what should one do if by chance one's eye is cast: on a non-Mahram woman. He has quoted the Holy Prophet (SAW) as saying 'Turn away your eyes from there?. (Ibn Kathir).  Ali ® has said that first sight is forgivable, but casting eye a second time is sin. Both versions are alike, that is, if one casts his eye by chance without intention, it is forgiven being not intentional, otherwise it is prohibited to cast the eye intentionally, even the first time.
  23. 23. Women are also to lower their gaze And say to the believing women that they must lower their gazes - 24:31. Women are forbidden to look at any man except their mahrams. 'Umm Salamah and Maimoonah both were with the Holy Prophet(SAW) when suddenly 'Abdulliih Ibn 'Umm Maktum, the companion of the Holy Prophet who was blind, came in, and the Holy Prophet asked them to go inside. This incident had happened after the injunction of hijab for women was revealed. On this 'Umm Salamah pleaded '0 Holy Prophet! But he is only blind, he can't see us'. Then the Holy Prophet(SAW) replied 'Is it that you are blind too?' (Abii Dawod and Tirmidhi )
  24. 24. Men and women can not look at each other’s SATR  Man's satr (concealable) comprises all parts of the body from navel to knees, and that of women, the whole body, except face and palms.  Neither can a man see another man's satr nor can a woman see another woman's satr.  Looking by a man at a woman's satr or of a woman at a man's satr is highly prohibited, and amounts to contradiction of the injunction of the Qur’anic verse which enjoins for 'turning away the eyes'.
  25. 25. 3 Great benefits of lowering gaze Ibn Qayyam  The first of them is the sweetness of Iman and the pleasure that comes from it, which is more sweet and pleasing than that which he diverted his eyes away from for Allah's sake. Verily, whoever abandons a thing for Allah's sake, He (swt) compensates him with better than it.  The second benefit is a light in the heart and quality of intuition.  The third benefit is the strength of the heart and steadfastness and courage. So Allah (swt) would give him, by His strength, the ability of wisdom and substantiation, and the devil would flee from him as it has been mentioned in the saying,
  26. 26. Adornments are not to be exposed o And must not expose their adornment, except that which appears thereof, and must wrap their bosoms with their shawls, and must not expose their adornment except to their husbands - 24:31. o The literal meaning of zinah is that with which a woman adorns herself to appear attractive. It may be nice clothes or ornaments. o It is obligatory for women not to show the parts of the body where the objects of adornments
  27. 27. Warning to those who spread obscenity Qur’an has proclaimed the publicity of indecency as a tool for spreading obscenity among the Muslims. This vital point needs to be pondered by the Muslims. This verse actually emphasizes that to give publicity to scandals without proof will invite very severe punishment both in this world and in the Hereafter.
  28. 28. Prophet (SAW) cursed the one who looks at satr of others Hasan Basari said,” It is said to me that the Prohet (SAW) said may the cu upon one who looks (at what is prohibited) and the one who shows it.” B
  29. 29. Do not see stranger with second gaze Buraida (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) said to Ali,” (if you happen to see a strange woman) do not glance se time. You will not be answerable for the first (unintention sight but will be accountable for the second intentional g Reported by Tirmizi and Abu Dawood.
  30. 30. Unintentional first sight is forgivable Jarir Ibn Abdullah (RA) asked the Prophet (SAW) what he should do if he uninten sees someone’s satr. He told him to turn his sight away. (Muslim)
  31. 31. Internet is a tool for good or evil  What leads to Haram is Haram. (Principle of Fiqh)  Zina is committed by the eye and the hand, even before a sexual encounter takes place. The hand commits adultery by touching Haram and the person Using the keyboard and using the mouse to look at these pictures, one is committing adultery Internet is good and bad.  Allah gave us the brains to think where is the good way and where is the bad way.  According to your choice Allah will judge you.
  32. 32. Challenge of lowering our gaze  There is intense temptations felt by today's youth. Difficulty in lowering the gaze by both the young and old is readily perceived on the street, weddings, parties and even in the Masjids.  When Allah created us humans will all the desires and urges, He also revealed to us sufficient and complete guidance to contain them through proper channels.  All we need to do is seek this guidance, contemplate on it and implement it. "This day I have perfected you deen for you, completed my favors upon you and chosen Islam as your deen" (5:3)
  33. 33. How to lower our gaze?  Realize the fact that the great Sahabas were humans beings too. Biologically they were no different from us, they too had desires and temptations of the human species, and yet they controlled them in the best of ways. We can too, insha Allah. To posses sensual passions is Human, to control them is Muslim  Satan rebelled and was expelled by Allah, so lets all rebel against Satan and expel him from our hearts. Satan intents to fight a war against the believers, so lets gather our forces behind Quran and Sunnah and
  34. 34. How to lower our gaze?  Remember that even if no human eye is watching us, the ever watchful Allah is constantly monitoring the innermost regions of our heart. Our eyes, limbs, tongue and private parts will all be witnesses for or against us on the Day of Judgement and not an atoms worth of our deeds will remain unexamined.  We should condition our minds to bring the verses of Surah Nur in front of our eyes during any tempting situation and imagine that during that particular
  35. 35. Role of parents  Unfortunately there are a lot of Muslim youth who are using pornography on the internet and they basically use the Internet only for that purpose  Too often, though, parents are willing to bury their heads in the sand when the issue of pornography and their children comes up.  “How do you know your kids don’t know about it?  Parents need to play active role in monitoring the on line time and sites visited by their children and provide guidance  Children are to be disciplined properly when there is violation of rules set by the parents.
  36. 36. Helpful Tips To Stop Watching Porn  Once the door of pornography is opened, it is very hard to close.  Shut the door to temptation by getting rid of your computer.  If you can't get rid of it, at the very least change out your hard drive and memory.  If you get online in private, then, from now on, only use the computer when others are around.  If you look at these things at night, then refrain from turning
  37. 37. Helpful Tips  By looking at porn, you are willingly putting yourself in instant gratification  The problem with this type of "instant" gratification is that it leaves you empty, broken, guilty, and self-loathing. Why put yourself through this?  True gratification only comes when you enjoy sexual activity through lawful means, that is, with a spouse. Anything else simply harms your heart and soul.
  38. 38. More Tips  Cultivate good habits, and Allah willing, these will replace the bad ones.  Establish a connection with the Book of Allah by reading it and reflecting on it daily.  Contemplate the noble example of the Prophet, Allah bless him and give him peace, and the biographies of his companions, Allah be pleased with them, to see how you can implement these life lessons.  Find good Muslim friends. This is of huge importance in fortifying yourself against temptation
  39. 39. Take steps toward sincere repentance  "Say: "O my Servants who have transgressed against their souls! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah. for Allah forgives all sins: for He is Oft- Forgiving, Most Merciful. Turn ye to our Lord (in repentance) and bow to His (Will), before the Penalty comes on you: after that ye shall not be helped" (Zumar, 39:53-54)  And the Prophet, Allah bless him and give him peace, said, "Allah the Mighty and Majestic accepts the repentance of His servant as long as long as his death-rattle has not begun" [At- Tirmidhi, Riyad al-Salihin
  40. 40. STEPS TO SINCERE TAUBAH  1. Turning away from the sin  2. Feeling remorse  3. Resolving to never go back  4. Changing one's environment so that the temptation is removed  Make dua,” "O Allah help us in controlling our sensual desires until we get married, and after our marriage, let our desires be only towards our spouses...ameen"
