  • 2. WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC? Chiropractic is a holistic healthcare that focuses on the nervoussystem (brain and spinal cord) and how the nervous system controlsall the functions in the body such as theadrenals, immune, gastrointestinal, pulmonary, cardiovascularsystem, etc. Chiropractic care is used most often forback, neck, extremity, jointpains, headaches, numbness, tingling, but is not limited to theseconditions. Research has shown that chiropractic is beneficial inconditions such as asthma, allergies, autism, colic, commoncold/flu, constipation, digestion, ear infections, painfulmenstruation, high blood pressure, lung and bronchialproblems, PMS, pregnancy, sinus/sinusitis, torticollis, and many more.
  • 3. CHIROPRACTIC TREATS MISALIGNEDJOINTS AND THE EFFECTS OF THESEMISALIGNMENTS (AKA SUBLUXATIONS)ONJOINTS, MUSCLES, ORGANS, NERVOUSSYSTEM.
  • 4. FIRST CHIROPRACTIC VISIT Expect a thorough examination that typically includes the following: History Examination Diagnostic studies (when indicated) Diagnosis Treatment plan If Dr. Lim determines that your condition is better treated by anotherhealth care provider, she will make the appropriate referral.
  • 5. TREATMENT TECHNIQUES The most common therapeutic procedure performed bychiropractors is known as an adjustment. An adjustment is a gentlethrust to the joints to restore range of motion, function, reduce painand muscle tightness as well as to improve overall general health.Dr. Joon Lim specializes in both gentle as well as traditionaltechniques. She is Advanced Proficiency Rated in ActivatorMethods, a comfortable and highly effective state of the arttechnique. She also uses other techniques to accommodate all herpatients. Once pain has stabilized, Dr. Lim will recommend herpatients to start stretches/strengthening exercises so patients canreturn to activities they used to do, reduce reoccurrence ofcondition, improve performance, and get the best out ofchiropractic care.
  • 6. ADDITIONAL TREATMENTS/SERVICES Electrical stimulation Cold laser Ultrasound Traction/Spinal flexion-distraction Ice and heat Rehabilitative exercises Soft tissue mobilization Nutritional counseling
  • 7. WHEN WILL I FEEL BETTER? Many patients feel relief immediately following chiropractictreatment. For others, they may feel substantial relief in a few weeks to months. Many factors can affect the healing process Age Severity and duration of condition Work/Sports/Recreational activities Medical conditions Previous injuries, bad posture, stress
  • 8. WHO CAN BENEFIT FROMCHIROPRACTIC CAREEVERYONE!!! Infants, kids, teenagers, athletes, pregnantwomen, “golden years” population, people who havegone through accidents, work/sports/recreationalinjuries, simply in pain and/or not performing as well asbefore, people who feel “fine”
  • 9. ABSENCE OF PAIN IS NOT AGOOD INDICATOR OF GOODHEALTH! Pain is usually the last symptom to show up and the firstto go. The spine is usually restricted/unstable formonths or years before it presents as a problem.
  • 10. “I HEARD I’LL HAVE TO GOFOREVER” IS A MYTH Once your pain has stabilized, it is up to you to continue care formaintenance/wellness care. Many patients choose to come backapproximately once a month/few months because they realize howgreat getting adjusted is. Going to a chiropractor is just like going toa dentist. Normally, you don’t go to a dentist only when you havepain. You go in for check-ups and teeth cleaning before pain startsto show up. Going for maintenance care is also like maintaining a healthylifestyle—When you have reached a healthy, optimal weight after aweight loss program, do you stop eating healthy and exercise or doyou continue maintaining a healthy lifestyle?
