  1. SUN TIPS TEN TIPS FOR SAFE SUN SKINCARE Joel Schlessinger, MDTo shop the recommended products in this presentation call 402-697-1100or visit http://www.lovelyskin.com/sunscreen
  2. Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, 3.5 million new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed each year in the United States. While skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer, it is also one of the most preventable. Here, Dr. Schlessinger shares tips along with his favorite products for staying safe from the dangers of sun exposure. To shop the recommended products in this presentation call 402-697-1100 or visit http://www.lovelyskin.com/sunscreen
  3. 1. Encourage safe sun habits early. Children are especially susceptible to UV damage and according to the Skin Cancer Foundation, suffering a sunburn during early childhood more than doubles a person’s chance of developing melanoma later in life. Let your kids see you using sunscreen and encourage them to apply and reapply sunscreen while outside. To shop the recommended products in this presentation call 402-697-1100or visit http://www.lovelyskin.com/sunscreen
  4. 2. Choose the right sunscreen. When searching for the right sunscreen, it’s important to keep three factors in mind: 1. Broad spectrum protection 2. Sun protection factor (SPF) 3. Water resistanceTo shop the recommended products in this presentation call 402-697-1100or visit http://www.lovelyskin.com/sunscreen
  5. 2. Choose the right sunscreen – BroadSpectrum Protection Healthy skin needs protection from both UVA and UVB rays. While UVB rays are the ultraviolet rays that cause the skin to redden and burn, UVA rays are the ultraviolet rays that cause signs of aging, such as wrinkling and hyperpigmentation. Sunscreens that protect against both kinds of ultraviolet radiation will have a broad spectrum designation, such as EltaMD UV Daily SPF 40.To shop the recommended products in this presentation call 402-697-1100or visit http://www.lovelyskin.com/sunscreen
  6. 2. Choose the right sunscreen – SunProtection Factor (SPF) Any product with a broad spectrum SPF of 15 or higher has been proven to reduce the risk of skin cancer. However, Dr. Schlessinger agrees with researchers who state that there is not enough data to prove that a product with a high SPF protects you better than a product with an SPF of 50. Jan Marini Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant SPF 30 provides SPF 30 UVA and UVB ray protection along with antioxidants to protect your skin from further damage. To shop the recommended products in this presentation call 402-697-1100or visit http://www.lovelyskin.com/sunscreen
  7. 2. Choose the right sunscreen – Water Resistance When exposed to water or sweat, sunscreens dissolve and become less effective. To be up to date with current FDA regulations, sunscreen labels must now indicate how long their products are water resistant. It is important not only to choose a product that is water resistant, but to also know how long it is water resistant so you know when to reapply it. Products like EltaMD UV Pure SPF 47 are water resistant for up to 80 minutes. To shop the recommended products in this presentation call 402-697-1100or visit http://www.lovelyskin.com/sunscreen
  8. 3. Apply sunscreen every day. Even on days that are overcast, the sun’s radiation can reach the skin and cause damage. Apply sunscreen in the morning or 30 minutes before sun exposure to protect your skin and help prevent signs of early aging. Products like Pro+Therapy MD Advanced Ultra Light Day Repair SPF 30 are lightweight and can be used under your makeup, making it a suitable sunscreen for daily use.To shop the recommended products in this presentation call 402-697-1100or visit http://www.lovelyskin.com/sunscreen
  9. 3. Apply sunscreen every day. Other products, like PRESCRIBEDsolutions Stop the Clock Triple-Action Anti-Aging Day Cream SPF 50, provide UVA and UVB ray protection while reducing existing signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles. Having a product that works as both a sunscreen and an anti-aging treatment simplifies your routine and increases the likelihood that you will apply it every day.To shop the recommended products in this presentation call 402-697-1100or visit http://www.lovelyskin.com/sunscreen
  10. 4. Protect yourself from the inside out. Developed by a Harvard dermatologist, Heliocare Sun Protection Pills are a potent antioxidant that protect the body from sun damage. Derived from a fern found in Central America, Heliocare is a natural product that can be taken 1-3 times a day. Heliocare boosts sunscreen performance, protecting you from dangerous UV radiation. To shop the recommended products in this presentation call 402-697-1100or visit http://www.lovelyskin.com/sunscreen
  11. 5. Remember to reapply often. On days when you are in the sun for extended periodsof time, be sure to reapply your sunscreen everycouple of hours. Sunscreens such as La Roche-PosayAnthelios 60 Ultra Light Sunscreen Lotion Spray areconvenient for reapplication due to its aerosolcontainer, giving you lightweight coverage withoutmissing a spot.To shop the recommended products in this presentation call 402-697-1100or visit http://www.lovelyskin.com/sunscreen
  12. 6. Choose a makeup with SPF protection. Whether you prefer a liquid foundation such as Jane Iredale Dream Tint Moisture Tint SPF 15, or a powder foundation such as Colorescience Sunforgettable Brush SPF 30, a foundation with SPF protection will give you UV ray protection without adding an extra step to your routine. To shop the recommended products in this presentation call 402-697-1100or visit http://www.lovelyskin.com/sunscreen
  13. 7. Avoid the sun when it is at its strongest. Between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. the sun’s radiation is at its strongest. If you are exposed to the sun during these hours the risk of skin damage increases dramatically. Protect yourself by seeking out shade during these peak hours and avoiding prolonged amounts of time in direct sunlight. To shop the recommended products in this presentation call 402-697-1100or visit http://www.lovelyskin.com/sunscreen
  14. 8. Wear protective clothing.Clothes provide another barrier toprevent the sun’s radiation fromreaching your skin. Lightweightfabrics like cotton offer protectionwithout heaviness so you remaincool while wearing them. Also keepin mind that tightly woven materialsoffer greater protection than looselywoven materials. To shop the recommended products in this presentation call 402-697-1100or visit http://www.lovelyskin.com/sunscreen
  15. 9. Don’t leave out any exposed areas. Many people are diligent about applying sunscreen on their bodies but there are a few areas that are often forgotten when applying sun protection. Use an eye cream product that offers UV protection such as Murad Essential-C Eye Cream SPF 15, which is gentle enough that it won’t run into your eyes and cause irritation. Also, be to sure to wear sunglasses to prevent the sun’s rays from reaching the skin of your eyelids. To shop the recommended products in this presentation call 402-697-1100or visit http://www.lovelyskin.com/sunscreen

Daily use of a sun protectant on your lips will also ensure that your lips remain youthful-looking by protecting them from signs of aging such as wrinkling caused by UV radiation. To shop the recommended products in this presentation call 402-697-1100or visit http://www.lovelyskin.com/sunscreen

After removing all three, Dr. Schlessinger diagnosed A as a stage 2 melanoma. “While C, as well as B, are all scary looking, A has a very concerning, nearly bluish color to its central area. Additionally it was darker in general than the other two.
