1. 1. Flow Charts Understanding and communicating how a process works
  2. 2. Flow charts are easy-to-understand diagrams showing how steps in a process fit together. This makes them useful tools for communicating how processes work, and for clearly documenting how a particular job is done. MEANING:
  3. 3.

A flow chart can therefore be used to:

Define and analyze processes.

Build a step-by-step picture of the process for analysis, discussion, or communication.

Define, standardize or find areas for improvement in a process

  4. 4. How to Use the Tool:

Most flow charts are made up of three main types of symbol:

Elongated circles, which signify the start or end of a process.

Rectangles, which show instructions or actions.

Diamonds, which show decisions that must be made

  5. 5. Standard symbols for drawing process flowchart Flowcharts use special shapes to represent different types of actions or steps in a process. Lines and arrows show the sequence of the steps, and the relationships among them. There are many symbols used to construct a flow chart; the more common symbols are shown below:
  6. 7. Within each symbol, write down what the symbol represents. This could be the start or finish of the process, the action to be taken, or the decision to be made. Symbols are connected one to the other by arrows, showing the flow of the process.
  7. 9.

Key Points:

Flow charts are simple diagrams that map out a process so that it can easily be communicated to other people.

To draw a flowchart, brainstorm the tasks and decisions made during a process, and write them down in order.

Then map these out in flow chart format using appropriate symbols for the start and end of a process, for actions to be taken and for decisions to be made.

Finally, challenge your flow chart to make sure that it's an accurate representation of the process, and that that it represents the most efficient way of doing the job.

  8. 10. Example of Flow Chart
  9. 12. process Flowchart (Process Flow Mapping) Process flowchart or PFD is also known as the system flow diagram or SFD. The main reason of using process flowchart is to show the relation between major parts of the system. Process flowchart or PFD does not include minor parts or components of the system like piping ratings or piping systems. In many organizations, users term process flow diagrams as flow sheet.
  10. 13. Examples of Process Flowchart
  11. 14.

The Benefits for Process Flowchart

The process flow chart provides a visual representation of the steps in a process. Flow charts are also referred to as process mapping or flow diagrams. Edraw is a perfect process flowchart software with rich flow chart templates and flow chart symbols you can create professional flow charts quickly and easily.

Constructing a flow chart is often one of the first activities of a process improvement effort, because of the following benefits:

make process flowcharts give everyone a clear understanding of the process

help to identify non-value-added operations facilitate teamwork and communication

keep everyone on the same page design a flow charts

flowchart construction etc.
