<ul><li>The three stages of labor and delivery are the dilation stage, expulsion stage and the placental stage. </li></ul><ul><li>The dilation stage is when the uterine muscle contracts so that the baby can be pushed out. A women has to be dilated up to 10cm in order to begin pushing. </li></ul><ul><li>The second stage expulsion stage is the actual birth of the baby. When the baby appears head first it is called a crowning position, if they appear with their buttocks first this is called the breech presentation. </li></ul>
<ul><li>The third and final stage is the placental stage which is the delivery of the placenta. The placental is how a baby gets nourishment from it’s mother. The placenta is also delivered through the vagina. </li></ul>
<ul><li>The time required for the development of a fetus is called gestation . Forty weeks is the normal length of time for pregnancy. It is considered to be a premature baby if the mother give birth before thirty-seven weeks . </li></ul>
<ul><li>A physician who specializes in the treatment of women is called a gynecologist . </li></ul><ul><li>A gynecologist deals with the health of the female reproductive system, including the diagnosis and treatment of disorders and diseases. </li></ul>
