  3. 3. External Conflicts: Man Versus Man This is perhaps the most obvious and most played on in literature. There is usually one protagonist and one antagonist in a story. The two are in conflict or disagreement over some one or something in the story. In the novel, Ralph and Jack are the two who are at conflict over who should lead the boys. Ralph represents order and civilization while Jack represents chaos, evil, and savagery. Literature
