  • 1. Don Stemley Graphic Designer Illustrator
  • 2. Catalog Cover This catalog cover was created when I was at MCM Electronics. The graphic elements were created in Photoshop and laid out using QuarkXPress.
  • 3. Catalog Cover During down periods, I would design graphics and covers for later use. This particular idea was selected for use in a future catalog. The graphic elements were created in Photoshop and laid out using QuarkXPress. All products were shot by me using digital SLR camera.
  • 4. Poster Self Promotional I love aviation and this F-35 presented an interesting angle, showing the engine. The fighter is done entirely in Illustrator. The background is executed in Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • 5. Poster Self Promotional I combined photographs and custom graphics to create a montage that tells a story about A-10 pilots and their mission. This work was performed in Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • 6. Poster Self Promotional The F-15E Strike Eagle is the current workhorse of the USAF. I used complimentary colors, tangents and diagonals to create excitement. The design is created in Photoshop.
  • 7. Freelance Work This art was created for a Mylar balloon manufacturer. I drew the cartoons, scanned it, and finished it using Illustrator.
  • 8. Logos and Graphics All of these appeared in MCM literature. Left. Created in Photoshop and used to promote teamwork. I won a $100 prize for creating the winning design! Upper right. Created in Photoshop, this logo is used for any American produced product sold by MCM. Lower right. Created in Illustrator and Photoshop, this is used to fill in empty spaces for last minute product deletions.
  • 9. Stuffer/Sales Aids I did a lot of these at MCM. Also used as a Trade Show promotion, this letter-sized piece was used to promote a discontinued product. I retouched the product photo, designed the graphics and rewrote the copy with approval of the Product Manager.
  • 10. Freelance Work This is one of two yards sign I designed for Grey Fox Custom Homes and Realty. I designed it on the diagonal because the client wanted a sign that conveyed the upscale image of Grey Fox and attract more attention than the usual realty sign. Their logo was redesigned by me.
  • 11. Co-Op Advertising 3 3/8” x 4 7/8” ads. Vendors buy space in MCM’s catalogs, then I would develop the concept and layout, subject to approvals and proofing, of course. This ad was built in QuarkXPress and Photoshop.
  • 12. Photo Manipulation The photography for this cover was altered to give it more of an illustrative look. So I manipulated the photo to give it more of a line art illustrative feel.
  • 13. Photo Retouching Here are some examples of photo retouching and manipulation that was performed by me on vendor supplied photos so as to permit publication in a catalog. The model shown on the left had wrinkled pants and shirt, blemishes on his face and contained artifacts. The photo of the model in the upper right needed a coat and hat. The coat and hat were borrowed from another photo provided from the client and added to this photo. Of course, all the wrinkles were removed!
  • 14. Page Layout Some examples of production work that I performed. We produced a lot of this. One catalog every 3 weeks, one stuffer a month, four specialty catalogs a year, and one 506 page catalog annually.
  • 15. Trade Show Signs This is one of two large format trade show signs for the Aarons 2008 Rental Show. They were designed to be easy to read, clean and uncluttered. Performed in Illustrator, I coordinated with the account manager, created graphics, laid out and sent to the printer for lamination and mounting to gatorboard.
