  • Presenter Notes 3 CLICKS TETRA currently serves two basic markets as shown. These original PMR/PAMR target markets of TETRA are being satisfied as can be seen in the pie chart. For example, Public Safety, PAMR, Utilities, Transportation, Industrial. An added bonus is that TETRA is being considered by the Defence Organisations as part of their COTS (Commercial Off The Shelf) initiative.
  • Presenter Notes The main unique aspect of TETRA is INTEGRATED Services and network SCALABILITY. The unique services are: - Multiple site wide area all informed net for Group Calls and Broadcast calls. - Emergency call that can be initiated by a simple button press automatically alerting all users and the dispatcher in the initiators group. This facility will automatically drop the lowest priority call if the network is busy when an emergency call is initiated. - Fast access (<300 ms) using a simple press to tall (PTT) switch for group calls and preloaded one to one calls - Direct Mode Operation allow a group of terminal users to communicate in a local area independent of the network (more about this later) - Support of end to end encryption meeting the requirements of national security organisations. - Scalable networks from single site to nation-wide matching a wide variety of user needs.

The main focus of user driven requirements in the need for higher data rates, and to interwork and roam with ‘UMTS’. Hence the need to evolve the TETRA SIM towards USIM There is a requirement for air to ground communications which means an extension of the operating range (beyond 120 km). Increases in Network Efficiency will be addressed, and during the standardisation process it is probable that further user requirements will be identified. Most importantly, TETRA Release 2 needs to be backward compatible with current TETRA (Release 1), and utilise the existing spectrum allocations.
