Learning Objectives for Anatomy Lectures Summer 2003 Lecture 12: Organs of the Abdomen At the end of lecture 12, the student should be able to: 1) Identify the parts of the urinary system 2) Explain the function of the kidney 3) Describe the gross anatomy of the kidney and surrounding capsules 4) Describe the internal anatomy of the kidney (cortex and medulla) and their 5) Describe the movement of urine through the internal anatomy of the kidney and other structures leading to its exit from the body 6) Describe the location, function and structure of the ureters 7) Relate the structure of ureters to its function 8) Describe the location, function and structure of the bladder 9) Relate the structure of the bladder to its function 10)Describe the location, function and structure of the urethra, urethral sphincters and orifice 11)Compare the structure and function of the male and female urethra 12)Explain how micturition occurs 13)Identify the parts of the alimentary canal 14)Identify the accessory organs of the digestive system 15)Describe the location, structure and function of the stomach 16)Relate the structure of the stomach to its function 17)Describe the location, structure and function of the small intestine 18)Describe the modifications for absorption found in the small intestine and compare them in the 3 segments of the small intestine
