Through its Open Educational Resources (OER) initiative, launched in 2001, the Hewlett Foundation seeks to use information technology to help equalize access to knowledge and educational opportunities across the world .

Users can select and modify existing content to shape their own online course (full or custom). Has over 40,000 registered members and over 14,000 actives of learning in the repository. OER's: Models of sustainability Hippocampus HippoCampus is a project of the Monterey Institute for Technology and Education (MITE) that was designed as part of Open Education Resources (OER), a worldwide effort to improve access to quality education for everyone. Your content has been developed by some of the finest colleges and universities in the world and contributed to the National Repository of Online Courses (NROC), another MITE project. Both HippoCampus and NROC are supported by The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
