  1. 2. What is a NGO? A non-governmental organization (NGO) is any non-profit, voluntary citizens' group which is organized on a local, national or international level. Task-oriented and driven by people with a common interest. Some are organized around specific issues, such as human rights, environment or health.

  9. 10. What do we do? <ul><li>It runs Diya Vidya Mandir, a schools for slum children in Nihal Vihar, New Delhi where children are provided free education, midday meals, regular medical check-ups and support and imparting of moral values. </li></ul>

  13. 14. Why Nihal Vihar? <ul><li>Foundation has felt that there is a great need to educate people about hygiene and health care as well as make them aware of the impending peril of AIDS. Nihal Vihar and its surrounding areas are mostly populated by people from the lowest strata of urban population. Majority of the people living here are migrants from states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bengal, working as rickshaw pullers, bus or truck drivers, housemaids, petty vendors and shop keepers, labourers and factory workers having meagre income of Rs.3,000 to Rs.4000 per month. Drug addiction and alcoholism is quite common. </li></ul>
