    Breaking down food into smaller particles
    Breaks it down into digestive juices
    Without it we can’t get rid of waste
    Can’t produce energy to build and nourish cells without this system
  • 3. Mouth
    Where the system starts
    Turns food mushy
    Breaks it down with chewing and uses enzymes in our body
  • 4. Esophagus
    Connects the mouth to the stomach
    Moves through by peristalsis
    Peristalsis is a series of muscle contractions that move down
  • 5. Stomach
    Provides basics of early digestion ex. holding meals for a long time
    Where the food is liquefied
    Once it’s liquefied it moves down to the small intestine
  • 6. Liver
    Produces sugar from fatty substances
    Stores specific vitamins and processes fat
    Filters out toxic wastes in your body
  • 7. Pancreas
    Makes hormones called insulin and glucagon
    Insulin helps regulate the blood glucose level
    An organ including enzymes that make cells
  • 8. Gallbladder
    A small pouch in your body
    Produces bile which helps to digest fats in the foods you eat
    Releases it into the duodenum to help absorb fats
  • 9. Rectum
    Only 5 cm long
    Where the feces is stored right before excretion
    Connects to the anus
