What effect on the market will a Google MVNO have? What do we know about their plan at this stage? Find out here: http://www.amgoo.com/blog/how-will-googles-new-nova-mvno-disrupt-the-mvno-in-usa-scene
MVNO in USA are now beginning to become quite commonplace, and enter the public's mindset as a very reasonable alternative to phone ownership in comparison with the incumbent large US phone operators.
Indeed, even these operators have set up their own MVNOs in order to corner a piece of this increasingly important market.
So it really didn't come as much of a surprise to hear that plans are afoot for Google to enter the MVNO in USA scene with a brand new MVNO called, at this early stage, 'Nova.'
But what effect on the market will a Google MVNO have? What do we know about their plan at this stage?
Keep reading as we explore why a Google MVNO could be a good thing...
What Do We Know About The New Google MVNO?
It's not strange to see Google launching new tools, products, and services. Since Google Android accounted for 81% of the operating systems found in new smartphones worldwide, most people are used to cell phones and Google going hand-in-hand.
This is why the new 'Nova' MVNO from Google is quite an exciting development for the American mobile phone industry. (Source: The Information)
There are many MVNO in USA taking on the big boys such as Verizon and AT&T, (click here to see our big MVNO list), but until now they are relatively small scale, perhaps having at most a few Million subscribers.
But with the enormous Google getting involved, there is a real chance that this could disrupt the mobile phone industry in the US. Here are the other things that we know:
Nova users have the ability to choose from the best signal available where they are, between Sprint, T-Mobile, and WiFi. This would mean better service all of the time!
This could drive down service costs (which is fairly standard for MVNO).
Planned to launch in the first half of 2015.

How Is This Different To Other MVNO In USA?
Most MVNO that are found in America are attached to one network, for instance 'Sprint.' This means
that if you're a user on an MVNO relying on good Sprint network coverage, but you find yourself in a
patchy area, you could suffer from having no signal!
Google's proposed MVNO offering, 'Nova,' would bypass this issue, as users could simply switch to
another network which did have good coverage in the given area.
What Else Could It Feature?
At this point there is a lot of supposition, but based on what we know about Google, it's fair to assume
that they will offer:
Reasonable pricing (in comparison with big name brands), as seen in their tablets and
affordable smartphones.
Attractive and recognisable branding. Everyone knows Google, right?
Lower costs if users agree to accept advertising. Users of Google's MVNO who accept their
advertising could have discounted subscriptions due to enhancing Google's profits through other
means.
3. 'Hangouts' to play a prominent role in making Nova a 'voice free' network. We can already
use Google hangouts for voice and video chat via broadband internet, so this could perhaps be
offered to Nova users in order to reduce or eliminate voice calling altogether.
Are There Any Doubts?
Yes. Some industry experts point to Google's fairly long list of canned services and experiments, such
as:
Buzz
Checkout
Orkut
Health
Labs
Picnik
Reader
Videos
Wave
...and more.
They suggest that for every 'hit' that Google has, such as Android, there are plenty of misses.
They're also unsure whether Google can successfully transform themselves into a telecoms company,
due to the need for call centres, stores, hardware, etc, much of which may be unfamiliar territory.
These are good points, however there aren't many multinationals with the financial might of Google,
nor the global reach; and what's more, Google are already heavily involved in the mobile industry due
to their Android OS and range of phones and tablets.
What's Your Take?
Do you think Google becoming a mobile operator will disrupt the mobile industry in America?
Will it be a success?
Would you use Nova?
