  • Operational Alliances for Inclusive and Sustainable Development
  • Operational alliances are emerging as a collective response to global and local challenges. They involve all kinds of actors: government, development agencies, private sector, civil society and international organizations, from both the North and the South.
  • Check out the Top 6 Lessons for developing successful operational alliances, learned from the 2013 Convergences Forum, in Paris.
  • Successful partnerships should address a very specific topic and avoid being too broad. 1.
  • 2. Partners shall have a common purpose when they engage in the alliance.
  • Each partner shall bring a comparative advantage to the alliance that the others do not have. 3.
  • Start a partnership on a limited scale to give members the opportunity to know each other better. 4.
  • Strong leadership and a consistent governance system is a must. The system “1 member/1 vote” works better than shareholders votes. 5.
  • Establish, from the beginning, indicators to monitor the processes and measure the impacts. This will help considerably ensuring the sustainability both of the interventions and the partnership. 6.
  • It takes teamwork to change the world. Learn more about global development partnership opportunities on Devex.
