Seamless Technology Usage<br />Technology is used in the classroom and at home. Children are used to technology and enjoy learning about technological advanced devices. Why not use it in counseling? It would be more comfortable for them and encourage the counselor to remain relevant.<br />
Reasons for Incorporating Technology:<br />Counselors need to remain relevant<br />Students enjoy learning technologies<br />It can be a tool to build relationship between counselor and child<br />
Type of Devices to Use:<br />Computers<br />Gaming Systems (Xbox, Nintendo DS, Wii)<br />TV<br />Graphic Art Programs<br />
The number one benefit of information technology is that it empowers people to do what they want to do. It lets people be creative. It lets people be productive. It lets people learn things they didn't think they could learn before, and so in a sense it is all about potential.<br /> Steve Ballmer<br />
Reasons for Technology Progression: <br />Counseling can be scary for children. They are acquainted with technology and it makes them comfortable when used in their counseling sessions.<br />Counselors have been late in progressing with the use of technological devices in their counseling, both school and private counselors.<br />
No Longer a Tug-a-War <br />With the use of technology in counseling, parents do not have to fight for their children to go. The “old” ways of counseling are over.<br />
Ways to Remain Relevant:<br />Attend Workshops<br />Ask clients what they are interested in (i.e. gaming systems)<br />Ask clients to bring favorite device with them to counseling<br />Research ways to find commonality with children<br />
Web Counseling <br />Web Counseling has recently become more familiar for people who are home bound or do not feel comfortable going to an office. This may be a helpful tool for children as well.<br />
Client Comes First<br />It is important to remember that the client always comes first. <br />The counselor has to make them comfortable, whether that is technology<br />Or a more traditional way of counseling.<br />
