  • 2. 2 IPv6 in Polish and European research networks - the beginning • GÉANT network in Europe – IPv6 enabled since 2003 roku for national research NREN networks • PIONIER – Polish Optical Internet – research and academic network – IPv6 enabled since 2003 through GEANT network • Metropolitan POZMAN network – IPv6 started in 2002 as testbed, since 2003 – production traffic • Polish DNS for suffix .pl IPv6 enabled since 2005 roku – NASK operator

The official portal of the city of Poznań - we make it IPv6 enabled • Multimedia City Guide, http://www.poznan.pl • The biggest information portal of the city of Poznań • The platform of e-Government services for citizens and businesses • Developed since 1998 in co-operation with the Municipal Office • PSNC is responsible for the technological part • Local government, its departments and co- operating institutions are responsible for the content of the Portal and its structure • The information platform of the Town Hall, its departments and units • 1000+ editors • Stats: – 10M visits/month – Bandwidth: near 500GB/month
  • 5. The official portal of the city of Poznań IPv6 enabled • The service was fired on June 8th, 2011, on the World IPv6 Day • Over 5k pages requested so far • Mainly bots – Googlebot

The official portal of the city of Poznań IPv6 conclusions • Firewall – due to lack of IPv6 support in current systems, dedicated fw was installed • WWW server – Some patches needed in stats processing • Web application – Database changes needed – increasing the size of db fields storing IP address • Low traffic – mainly bots

Free Wi-Fi Poznań wireless city network … and IPv6 • Free wireless network in city center • IPv6 enabled, IPv6/IPv4 dual stack, IPv6-only enabled • First phase, pilot network • Included services: eduroam • Network connectivity for: • City council • Waiting rooms in city hall officess, conferences rooms • Main streets in city center wireless.poznan.pl

Free Wi-Fi Poznań wireless city network IPv6 not for everyone?! – Infrastructure issues • Checkpoint and DHCPv6 server not working, migration to Juniper – Mobile clients issues: • Windows Mobile 7.8 not working, 8.0 – ok. • Android DHCPv6 client – not working – Android does currently not support DHCPv6 as defined by RFC 3315 https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=32621
