• 1. Apocalypse in Death Valley

Chapter 3.1: Going On

 • 2. Oh, good, you‘re all back! :) One thing beforehand – writing the dialogues with Braille was quite a task for me. I had a very clear picture of her character in my head and also knew exactly what I wanted her to sound like… but boy, that was hard to write! Writing a story in a foreign language is a nicy challenge for me, but using slang words or writing an accent was too hard. I tried several versions and failed, somehow it would not feel right. Well, I had to face it I just don‘t know enough about colloquial expressions and even urban dictionaries online wouldn‘t tell me in which context some phrases would or would not be used. So I only used a few abbrevations and some expressions that - to me - seem to be general colloquial English and I felt comfortable with using. I have to say even though it‘s not what I originally planned I‘m pretty pleased with the result as it is. If something sounds queery, please be forgiving. :) Thanks. Now there is only to hope my effort was enough to transport a bit of Braille‘s character over the screen. ;) But now - ready to get into my first talk with her? =>
 • 3.

Ok… let‘s see how this goes… Braille?

 • 4.

Braille?

… .

„ I think I stayed outside too long today…“

Um… can you hear me?

„ Oh, hearing voices… I‘m not going to answer… no, I won‘t….“

 • 5.

Oh, good, you can hear me… Why not?

„ Hell, I don‘t want to be talking to… oh, shibbles, I already am… lalala, I gotta go inside now.“

Braille, wait! You‘re not crazy! Phew, am I glad you can hear me. Look, I‘m…

„… not listening… lalala, oh this radiation is dangerous, Dad was right… better get inside now…“

Gosh, it was easier with your dad.

„ What?“

Yes, Magellan, your dad. I talked to him, too. He could hear my voice since he was a little boy.

„ So why are you talking to me now?

I can‘t believe I‘m talking to some voice from nowhere…“

 • 6.

Well. It seems your Dad can‘t hear me anymore, now that he is so old… and he told me to talk to you.

„ Ok… let‘s just pretend I‘m not some crackpot imagining things…“

You‘re not. To make things short: I‘m your creator, Braille. And usually all Sims can hear me and talk to me… only here it‘s different. Something happened to leave this place devastated and your family is trying to set things straight again.

„ Oh, now my head hurts, thank you.“

 • 7.

Look… your father and I have already made some progress. But he needs someone to take over now. And he wanted you to be that one. He wanted you to be heir because…

„ Heir? HEIR? Me? Oh no! I don‘t want to be heir! Heir means I have to have kids! And get married! I don‘t want to get married! Argh, I have to talk to Dad about this!“

 • 8.

Hey! Wait!

„ Shush, Voice! This is between Dad and me. And don‘t you dare follow me inside!“

*slams door*

Well… that certainly did not work out the way I planned.

 • 9.

A bit later…

„ Um… Voice?“

Oh, Braille. You‘re back?

„ Yeah, well… man, this is weird… well, I… talked to Dad.“

Hm, I assumed so. I heard shouting.

„ Shouting? No, we weren‘t shouting, just… discussing things passionately.“

You were shouting, I‘d say.

„ Hey, consider my situation for a moment! I just learned that you‘ve been watching me my whole life! That‘s damn freaky if you ask me! Not to mention that I suddenly have to be heir and uncover some whacked mystery an‘ all…“

Yes, well… I guess I can see your point. But does this mean you‘re… ok now with having babies some time?

 • 10.

„ Aaaaah, don‘t mention this right now, ok?

See, I‘m only doing this for Dad, y‘know? Only for him! I could tell that it was really important to him…

Anyway, I‘m still a teenager, maybe by the time I‘m old enough to have babies… maybe we… can talk about adoption?“

Nope, sorry. I really think you have to have bio… er, simlogical children for this task.

„ Shibbles.“

What kind of word is that?

„ Um… just some word to help me… express some feelings. Never mind that.

Well, as I said, let‘s forget about the baby business for now.“

Ok… for now.

 • 11.

„ Hehehe, Voice. You know what?“

What?

„ You‘ve got a really funny accent there… hehehehe.“

Funny?

„ Oh… better get going, Randy will be here soon.“

…

This is going to be one looooong generation.

„ Psh, I‘m not that bad!“

Yeah… oh, Braille, don‘t forget, it‘s your job to keep me updated on family stuff!

„ Yeah, yeah, whatever.“

Braille!

„ Just kidding, Voice. I know what to do. You gotta loosen up a bit, really.“

Grml.

 • 12.

*cough* „Let‘s talk about something else… You know that Mom drank some elixir after she got unvamped again?“

Yes, what about it?

 • 13.

*grins* „Well, she and Dad hit the sheets together after that…“

Wha… what? Thank god for contraception.

„ Shesh. She drank that elixir for a reason, so they didn‘t use contraception!“

Oh dear.

„ I hear you! They‘re way too old for that! Besides, they already have Kepler and me.

Dad only went through with it for Mom. I know he loves Kepler and me, but that would have been enough for him. Besides, he deserves a break… he works so hard! But nooo, Mum just thinks about babies, babies, babies… Family Sims. *rolls eyes* It‘s not like she cares much for her children after they were born.“

 • 14.

I‘m sure your Dad will be happy about the new baby, Braille.

„ Sure he‘ll be. But I bet he‘ll be doing most of the work with the little one. Mum wants to become Education Minister, after all… she could never stand Marie being it.“

Oh, really? I had no idea she didn‘t like Marie…

„ She doesn‘t show it but I can tell.“

Where are you going, Braille?

„ Hitting the stores. At least Mum managed to restore a sense of fashion to this place… and I want to go shopping !“

No objection there. ;)

 • 15.

„ I hope they have those jeans I saw online…“

I downloaded them.

„ Oh, Voice, you did? You can be cool!“

Than-… wait, can ?

„ Haha… just kidding.“

That girl!

 • 16.

„ Aww, come on, you like me, admit it!“

Um… Braille, that guy can hear you. But he can‘t hear me.

„ Shibbles. Uh, hi there! Haven‘t we met at school? I, um, like your haircut. *cough*“

Are you going to flirt with every male teenager you run into?

*whispers* „I can try.“

… .

Looooong generation.

„ What? It worked, he forgot he heard me talking to myself.“

Next time just try to keep your voice down when in public, maybe?

„ How boring.“

Braille!

„ Ok, ok. I‘ll try.“

 • 17.

„ Now that‘s more like it! I‘m hooooot!“

… ..

„ Psh, fine, don‘t say anything. I know I‘m right.“

… ..

„ Don‘t tell me it was so easy to get rid of you, Voice? Hehe.“

Grrrr.

„ Just kiddin‘, just kiddin‘! By the way, I‘m not the only one who finally changed their style. Wanna see the others?“

You bet.

 • 18.

„ Uncle Möbius just dyed his hair a bit darker… but he was a looker already. Said in an objective family way.“

Um, no objection there, either.

 • 19.

Awww, my dear Magellan… he grew a beard! *sigh* How is he doing?

„ Um, good. Don‘t worry, Voice, I‘ll take care of him.“

Good to know, Braille.

 • 20.

Oh, your brother looks pretty handsome now too, don‘t you think?

„ Yiech. He‘s a dork. Ok, he‘s a cute dork, but still a dork. *giggle*

He studies all the time… *rolls eyes* I think I have to set him up with a girl sooner or later… or he‘ll grow up without ever getting that first kiss!“

And what‘s so bad about that?

*gasp*

Just kiddin‘, Braille…. Hehe.

„ I can see I‘m having a bad influence on you...“

Excuse me?

 • 21.

„ Er… see, Aunt Mendela hasn‘t changed much about her looks… but Aunt Marie! She looks so different now! It bugged her to have the same hairstyle as Mum, I suppose. The shorter hair suits her better if you ask me.“

You‘re definitely right about that, Braille! She looks stunning!

But enough about Make-Overs. We need to get… Braille? What are you doing?

 • 22.

„ Gee, guess what. I‘m getting a job! Shesh.“

Oh. Good. I just wanted to suggest that.

„ Ha, beat you to it!“

Hrmpf. Whatever. Did you find one?

„ Yep. Water Person.“

Athletics career?

„ Yeah. Why, something wrong with that?“

No, no, fine by me. Besides, could I have stopped you?

„ Nope. But I figured I could be polite and ask.“

Thank you… I think.

 • 23.

„ Voice, there‘s something else… Möbius and Mendela will be moving out tonight.“

*sigh* I knew this would happen some day… but they‘ve been a great help to the family.

„ Yeah, Dad told me what they discovered. They are just moving across the street, so still close.“

That‘s good. I really think this family should stay together close. And they can visit.

 • 24.

„ If they have time… They moved in with Robi Zarubin, Mendela‘s boyfriend.“

Oh, that‘s great!

 • 25.

„ Mendela and Robi even got married! Ewww, how can you actually want to get married? But whatever floats their boat, I guess. They look happy.“

Am I seeing a tiny baby belly there?

 • 26.

„ Tiny? Rather huge, if you ask me. They named their baby boy Matt. He looks just like his dad.

Voice, do I really have to have babies?“

 • 27.

I‘m afraid so.

„ Shibbles. Well, Matt is kinda cute, I guess. Möbius is all over him, of course.“

He‘s adorable! Come on, Braille, you have to give him that!

„ Yeah, yeah, he is… but I‘m still happy Uncle Möbius re-invented contraception.“

Sooner or later…

„ Rather later!“

Hm.

 • 28.

„ Gee, I‘m not like Mum! She‘s pregnant again, of course.

 • 29.

„ And constantly shooing Dad around to bring her this and get her that… man, I can‘t stand it!“

Braille, she is your Mum and she is pregnant. And your Dad looks happy, don‘t you think?

„ Yeah, he‘s happy, alright. But he‘s also older than Mum now so he deserves a bit of rest! And I don‘t like her tone with him…“

Maybe it‘ll get better after the baby will be born… your mother isn‘t the youngest Sim anymore, either.

„ Maybe…“

 • 30.

„ And now go away, Voice, I‘m… busy… hehe.“

I can see that. Really, Braille, I don‘t understand why you don‘t want to have babies, I‘m sure you‘d… have fun along the way.

„ Leave. Now.“ *glares*

*gulp* Oooook.

 • 31.

Well, at least your Dad is able to experience the birth of his third child… I know it bugged him that he slept through yours and Kepler‘s.

„ What, it‘s time already? Randy... er, Don… oh, whoever you are just leave already!“

 • 32.

Braille?

„ Yeah?“

Tell me your mother did not have twins.

„ Well, I could… but you‘d have to keep your eyes closed and your ears shut for… the next 80 simdays or so to believe it?“

Drat.

Author‘s note: Aaaaaaargh, twins! My third pregnancies are doomed!
 • 33.

„ And what did I tell you? It‘s Dad who looks after the twins. Mum is nowhere to be seen!“

 • 34.

To be fair, Braille, your mother was… quite exhausted after the birth.

„ Well, her fault, she wanted the babies, she deals with them!

Anyway, Dad told me about your naming theme… so who were Hawking and Baily you named my new siblings after?“

Stephen Hawking is a British theoretical physicist. He especially contributed to the fields of cosmology and quantum gravitiy and also on theories on black holes.

„ Ugh, my head starts to hurt again…“

And Francis Baily was a British astronomer in the 18th / 19th century.

„ You named my sister after a guy?“

Louis Braille was a guy, too…

„ Bah.“

 • 35.

Back from work? Oh, you‘re a Team Mascot now!

„ Yeah… great… now, please excuse me for a few seconds…“

 • 36.

„… I gotta grow up. Great, on the sidewalk. Shibbles, that‘s so not cool.“

Spin and twirl, girl.

 • 37.

„ Grew up well, but ugh! Look at those clothes! I gotta change.“

Hm, I kinda like them…

„ You‘re not wearing them! I‘m freezing my butt off here!

Good point, I give you that.

 • 38.

„ There, there, Hawking. I‘ll get you a bottle…. Mum‘s again nowhere to be seen, of course. Probably skilling or sucking up to…“

Braille!

 • 39.

„ Yeah, yeah, I shut up already. But really, have you seen her giving the twins one bottle or diaper change? Nothing. If Kepler and I didn‘t help Dad…

She practically ran off to work the day after their birth and is again obsessed with becoming Education Minister. Sometimes I think she just wanted to have more kids so people would trust her more in her job.“

That can‘t be true, Braille!

„ Who knows?“

 • 40.

„ Anyway, Kepler has school and a job and still finds time to care for his siblings.

He recently got promoted to Legal Secretary, by the way!“

Your brother is a great guy, I know.

„ He‘s still a dork.“

I can see your smile.

„ Yeah, he‘s a great guy… but don‘t you dare tell him I said that!“

He can‘t hear me, Braille, remember?

„ Oh. Yeah, right. Forgot that for a sec, since you can‘t stop babbling with me.“

Hey!

*smirks*

 • 41.

Oh my!

„ What‘s the matter, Voice?“

Marie… she‘s grown old. And I missed her birthday!

„ You wouldn‘t be able to congratulate her, anyway, would you?“

Thanks for reminding me. Where is she going?

„ She‘s moving out. The house is too full now. But before you get sentimental again – she‘s moving right across the street, so staying close by!“

That‘s good.

 • 42.

I see you, er… found a new friend, Braille.

„ His name is Komei.“

Komei? Well, the nose fits…

„ Don‘t mock him. He left a nice gift after the dream date!“

 • 43.

Yeah, great. A huge fountain. Where could we possibly use that?

„ Oh, just put it in someone‘s inventory then. I think it‘s the thought that counts.“

Well, well, Braille! Have we found a possible future husband for you?

„ Ack, don‘t say that! Don‘t remind me!“

You are old enough now….

 • 44.

And I see the smile on your face when you‘re holding Hawking.

„ This is Baily. And I‘m only smiling because Kepler told me a joke.“

Kepler is at school.

„ Oh. Well, he told me one this morning.“

Oh, sure.

Author‘s note: Honestly, another Family Sim in disguise. Oh, sure, she rolls all the Romance Sims wants, but she is constantly caring for the twins. On free will! With one nice point! Meadow hasn‘t even picked up one of them yet. Strange Simworld.
 • 45.

„ See?“ *kissing noises* „I‘m not ready to settle down… not at all.

Aw, Warren…“

„ My name is Waylon.“

„ Uh, er… but you look like a Warren. So… manly.“

I‘m outta here.

 • 46.

„ Now, Baily… I‘ll toss you and you grow up – you‘re gonna be a big girl!“

*mumbles* „I can‘t believe Mum isn‘t here for the twins‘ birthday…“

Where is she?

„ Working, of course. She had to present some stupid suggestion about how to improve the transportation to school. Too much snow days or something.

… Look at you, Baily! You‘re a toddler now – a big girl!“

Aw, she‘s adorable!

 • 47.

„ And Kepler lets Hawking fly! Dad wanted to be there but he was exhausted and slept a bit. He basically cared for the twins alone… well, with a little help from Kepler and me.

I don‘t think I can ever forgive Mum for doing that!“

Oh Braille…

„ Voice, I don‘t want to talk about it right now. It doesn‘t matter. At least we have Dad.“

 • 48.

„ He actually cares about us.“

 • 49.

„ And the twins don‘t need Mum, anyway… they‘ve got us.“

They sure are happy kidlets, Braille.

 • 50.

Another date with Komei? Is this…

„ Shush and leave. Now. This is private.“

You may bark, but you don‘t bite, Braille.

„ Ah yes? Ask Komei about this…“

Ugh! Too much information. I‘m gone.

„ This works every time…“

That girl!

 • 51.

Wait… you are woo(hoo)ing Komei on your mother‘s birthday?

„ I need something to take my mind off that, don‘t I?“

…

…

 • 52.

The next day…

„ Awww, Tracy, I really like your hat… wait, what‘s this?“

 • 53.

„ Voice!?“

Yes, Braille? Ok, keep it down, Tracy shots you weird looks.

„ I don‘t care! I‘m pregnant!? How can that be?“

Well, the birds and the bees…

„ Argh! ‘t was your clicking, wasn‘t it? And who is the father?“

Considering you kissed a lot of guys but only, er, sat in the car with Komei, I‘d say that‘s pretty obvious.

„ Argh! I don‘t want to marry him! Have you seen his nose?!“

Wait, you said…

„ Forget what I said! I. Don‘t. Want. To get married!“

 • 54.

„ I think I need to calm myself with a Dream Date now.“

You‘re unbelieveable, Braille… and it‘s also unbelieveable that Tracy hasn‘t left yet!

*hisses* „Just to make this clear once and for all – I. Won‘t. Talk. To. You. Ever. Again.“

… .

Oh, dear.

 • 55.

And this is it for now. I‘m already done with a huge part of the next chapter and originally wanted to make this one longer, but I felt this was the best stopping point.

Will Braille ever talk to me again? *gulp*

Will she marry Komei The Nose? And if so, will he be able to lift Paranormal so that I can finally move Kaylar‘s urn outside? (Although, right now Drake is haunting more often… and he always heads straight for his bed.)

Will the baby inherit the nose?
