  • 1. Social Media for Educators
    Debbie Martin
  • 2. Most useful!!!
Delicious was the most useful tool in this course for me. I found myself addicted to adding to my delicious. Using the delicious search tool was very helpful. Seeing how many people tagged the different web site made a difference if I open the site or not. Some of my tags did not have anyone tagging it because many of the topics were dealing with Family Consumer Science.
  • 3. Success and Challenge
I would have to say the delicious was also my greatest success. At first I was very frustrated. I had to join yahoo to use the tool. I did not see joining yahoo was required in any teaching section. I could find no other way. So I joined yahoo and added the tags. Then the tags did not show up on my menu bar. Frustration! I tried to join again but yahoo would not let me. I tried to get rid of yahoo but could not. It kept saying Welcome Debbie to yahoo. So if all else fail “close down the computer” and reopen. Guess what? It worked, my tags were there.
  • 4. Moodle
The moodle is a great online course tool. I use this tool in all of my classes. As the teacher I have the option to open and close any section I wish to share with my students. I like the full open for this type of online course. That way I could see what was ahead, how much work was involved in the course and it permitted me to jump around if I wished. The great thing about moodle is you can use any other tool you wish along with it. I think more teachers should try using this tool.
  • 5. Personal Learning Plan
Ning- at first the Ning look confusing to work with but once I got started it was lots of fun. It took time to add photos and videos of value to my Ning. I liked the final results. I will use it in the fall with my new class. If it goes well I may add other courses. I already use moodle but I like the idea of students being able to upload pictures of their projects to the Ning to share with the class. Even though the moodle has a chat room, I kind of like the social learning found in Ning.
  • 6. Check out my Ning for a new class at Harriton High School in fall 2010

  • 7. Twitter
I am still not sure about using twitter. I find reading twitter on technology very interesting. I also checked out many of the web sites found on the tweets. But I did not feel comfortable adding my own tweets. I am not sure I had anything to add. Maybe if I found a Family Consumer Science teacher on twitter I would have joined in freely.

  • 9. Delicious
Delicious – the word makes me think of my favorite food –Ice Cream. Something I would like to have anytime everyday. The tool delicious is something that I feel I can become addicted to. I have already shared this site with some my friend as my favorite new tool. I know many of my students will find this a tool very helpful. I can’t wait to share this with my co-workers.

  • 11. Animoto
This was so much fun to try out. It is very simple and user friendly. I liked how simple it was to put a 30 second video together. I use i-movie often in my classes. It take a lot of time. It has a lot more features and is of no cost to our students
But I think for a short fun activity. I may have students use this tool. I know I will personally use it to share personal events with friend and family.

  • 13. Thank You
Rich, I want to thank you for introducing me to so many wonderful tools. I may not use all of them but now I know what they are and how to use them.
Please offer more courses for me to learn about tools I can use in my classroom.
The online courses are wonderful, they forced me to explore on my own.
I love showing students new tools. So many times they are showing me new skills.
I am a life long learner.
