  • 1. 30 Years of Leadership in Parboiling TechnologyCompany Overview S. S. Aggarwal
  • 2. Discussion Outline 30 Years of Leadership in Parboiling Technology 3 DIFFERENT PARBOILING PROCESSES 2 WHAT IS PARBOILING 1 – THE RICE ENGINEERS www.indussgroup.net 2
  • 3. INDUSS - Pioneers in Parboiling Technology • OPERATING SINCE 1974 • CAPACITY - 50 TONS/DAY TO 1500 TONS/DAY • MORE THAN 2000 INDUSS PLANTS IN OPERATION Equipments Process more than 16 million Tons of Paddy per year. EVERY TWO DAYS – AN INDUSS PLANT IS COMMISSIONED www.indussgroup.net 3
  • 4. Largest Equipment Supplier LARGEST EXPORTER OF RICE PROCESSING EQUIPMENTS FROM INDIA THE LARGEST COMPOSITE EQUIPMENT SUPPLIER IN INDIA www.indussgroup.net 4
  • 5. What is Parboiling The process of wetting, heating, steaming and drying of paddy is called par boiling. The purpose of this process is to produce physical and chemical modifications in the cereal with economic, nutritional and practical advantages. Lower brokens than raw rice Low free fatty acids in rice bran Higher oil content in rice bran www.indussgroup.net 5
  • 6. Process Chemistry Loss of whiteness by parboiled rice in relation to steeping water at 70º C temperature (Source: Jayanarayanan, 1964) www.indussgroup.net 6
  • 7. Process Chemistry Loss of whiteness by parboiled rice in relation to steeping water temperatures (Source: Jayanarayanan, 1964) www.indussgroup.net 7
  • 8. Process Chemistry Water absorption by an Indian paddy variety in relation to the temperature of steeping water. RT-room temperature. (Source: Bhattachaya, Subba Rao & Swamy, 1966) www.indussgroup.net 8
  • 9. Parboiling Processes • Single Stage Single Steaming • Single Stage Double Steaming • Three Stage Double Steaming • Steam Rice LATEST PROCESS TECHNOLOGY • Continuous Pre-Steamers • Continuous Cookers • Automation Four batches parboiling from one plant in 24 hours www.indussgroup.net 9
  • 10. Parboiling ProcessSingle Stage – Double Steaming Paddy filled in tanks Steaming in tanks Cold water filled in same tank Soaking for 3-4 hours Water discharged Second Steaming Discharge to Drier Drying at 120 deg. Centigrade for 6 hours www.indussgroup.net 10
  • 11. Parboiling ProcessSingle Stage – Single Steaming Hot water filled in tanks Paddy filled in tank Soaking for 3-4 hours Water discharged Steaming Discharge to Drier Drying at 120 deg. Centigrade for 6 hours Commonly used in the world www.indussgroup.net 11
  • 12. Parboiling ProcessThree Stage – Double Steaming for White Rice (Long Grain) 1. Paddy filled in small tank on top Steaming in small tank 2. Cold water filled in big tank Soaking for 4-5 hours 1 Water discharged 2 3. Second Steaming in small tank at the bottom Discharge to Drier Drying at 120/100 deg. Centigrade for 8 hours 3 www.indussgroup.net 12
  • 13. Latest Processing Technology– Continuous Pre Steamer • Raw paddy flows into this pre steamer continuously at 10 TPH • The steam flow and pressure is controlled www.indussgroup.net 13
  • 14. Latest Processing Technology– Continuous Pre Steamer • After soaking, the paddy is steamed at a fixed flow rate. • Steam pressure and temperature are constant. • Capacity 10 TPH – 15 TPH www.indussgroup.net 14
  • 15. Latest Processing Technology - Automation • Paddy and water filling • Water circulation • Water and paddy discharge • Steaming Four batches parboiling from one plant in 24 hours www.indussgroup.net 15
  • 16. INDUSS Introduces Steam Rice Technology What is Steam Rice • Raw rice consumers prefer “aged” or “seasoned” rice. This is raw rice stored for 10 – 12 months. • The cooking quality , color and taste changes with aging • Disadvantages of long storage: – Chances of fungus and insects and rodents – Loss in weight – Large storage space and blocking of capital Advantages of Steam Rice • After steam treatment of paddy, the milled rice obtains cooking quality, color and taste as “aged rice” • No need for storing for 10/12 months www.indussgroup.net 16
  • 17. Processing Steam Rice Paddy filled in tanks Steaming in tanks Discharge to Drier Drying at 70 deg. Centigrade for 2 hours 500 TPD raw paddy drying cum 200 TPD steamed paddy processing unit www.indussgroup.net 17
  • 18. Driers – Raw and Parboiled Paddy Driers ADVANTAGES • High energy efficient - lower husk consumption • Efficient Blower -Low installed power-less than 30 HP • Low brokens. • Low drying time – less than 6 hours • Can be installed in the open area. • Available in 8 Tons per batch to 70 Tons per batch. • Available in Stainless Steel & Mild Steel. www.indussgroup.net 18
