Asb Library Catalog Tutorial - Presentation Transcript

    1. ASB Library Catalog Tutorial There are many more features available to you by logging into the ASB Library Catalog
    2. There are three ways to access the ASB Library Catalog: 1. The favorites installed on our computers. 2. The Quicklinks menu from the Portal. 3. The library cataloging book from the Virtual Library.
    3. Step 1: From your favorites, click ‘ASB Library Catalog’ and it opens up a new window as given below. Step 2: Click here to proceed.
    4. Performing Step 2, leads you to the screen below. Step 3: To login click here.
    5. Step 4: Type in your user name, which would be your last name and the initial of your first name. The password is ‘welcome’ for all users. For example: Mr. Krembs would log in as ‘krembsk’ and use the password ‘welcome’. Once you’ve logged in, you will now see your name on the top right hand side of the screen as displayed in the screen shot given below:
    6. Within the Catalog tab, there are several helpful tabs on the left hand side: Library Search – Allows you to search for books by title, author name, keyword, subject or series. Destiny Quest – Is a fancy interface that looks more streamlined. It features the newest added books and the top ten check outs from our library. Webpath Express – Provides you with a search engine filled with preselected and evaluated web links. This is an excellent search engine to use with your classes while researching. Resource Lists – Provides you a copy of the lists you have created.
    7. Here’s an example of the differences between a Google search vs. a Web Path Express search. Google gave 217,000 links for “Mughal Empire” while Web Path Express gave 7 with a short description and grade level appropriateness. When you need reliable results, use Web Path Express which may be accessed through our library catalog on the left hand side tab.
    8. Clicking on any of these tabs allows you to define your search which may be a basic search by title name, author name, barcode number, or it may be a more detailed search based on subject classifications, call number, etc.
    9. Within the Circulation tab you are able to locate a book by title and barcode number.
    10. The tab My Info allows you to see your “Patron Status” with materials checked out, due dates, etc. Whereas the tab “Resource Lists” allows you to create and maintain lists that you may use for your class units, personal reading, etc.
