- About The United Nations International Day of Families is observed May 15 at the United Nations headquarters and around the world. The Universal Peace Federation commemorates this date, considering the family to be a microcosm of the global community. Sustainable peace is grounded in the family as the most intimate social unit, the school of love. The 2010 theme of the International Day of Families was "The Impact of Migration on Families around the World." UPF chapters in 30 nations held events marking this day. The annual International Day of Families grew out of the International Year of the Family celebrated in 1994.
