  • 1. Christian – The Lion cub from HarrodsWould you like a lion cub as a pet?Answer 1. Where and when did the story take place? 2. Where did John Rendell and Ace Bourke come from?True or False? 3. Harrods had its own zoo department 4. "People would say you could get anything from Harrods, from a pin to an elephant" 5. In December 1969 Harrods put 2 lion cubs on sale 6. "Christian was just full of personality and he was so irresistible" 7. In the 60s keeping exotic animals was popular and perfectly legal 8. Harrods interviewed all potential buyers to ensure the lion cubs went to responsible owners 9. They bought Christian for 250 guineas which is the equivalent of over £5000 today 10. Both men worked as salesmen in a furniture shop called “Sophisticat” 11. They kept the lion in the shop basement 12. Christian was good at making up games 13. The cleaner was frightened of him. 14. When Christian was 6 months old devoured 5 kilos of meat a day 15. They got meat from a nearby restaurant 16. A Photographer took photos of him with some chicks and paid them £50 17. Christian had a bank account 18. Christian had exercise in a cemetery 19. Christian learnt to hunt by playing 20. The men and the lion had formed a strong bond after 2 monthsChristian was getting too big and needed a new home.Fill in the spaces 21.
