Sin É- Ag tacú leis an nGaeilge i mBaile Átha Cliath 15

  1. 1. SIN É- Ag tacú leis an nGaeilge i mBaile Átha Cliath 15 http://bac15.blogspot.com Poiblíocht sna meáin chlóite 2011 New D15 website A new website to promote and support the Irish language in the Dublin 15 area has been launched recently by a young Laurel Lodge man. A lover of the language, Darren Mac an Phríora, has been involved in a number of projects to promote its use over the past number of years and the new website, bac15.blogspot.com, is already attracting a large number of hits from like-minded enthusiasts. Darren is a former Dublin committee member of the Cork-based Irish language marketing organisation Gael-Taca and one of his projects in that organisation was to arrange for the erection of Irish language signs in the Dublin 15 area. According to Darren, "I put up Irish language signs in around 30 places in Dublin 15 when I was in Gael- Taca. I am hoping to use the new website to highlight these places and the places who have their own Irish language signage such as Myos and the Roselawn Inn." Darren, who has a degree in journalism and presents a current affairs programme in Irish on NearFM, said "the site is a community website to support the Irish language in Dublin 15. I want other people to
  2. 2. hopefully be inspired so that they can do the same work in other parts of Dublin and Ireland." Stories covered on the site to date include news of the new Gaelscoil proposed for Dublin 15; a new naionra (playschool) in Tyrellstown; well known Irish speakers living in the Dublin 15 area; a new Irish language GAA club and much more besides. Anyone who wants to contribute to the site or would like further information can e-mail Darren (darrenjmacanphriora@gmail.com). Lth 10 Fergus Lynch Aibreán 2011 Internet: Darren's bid to boost the Irish language in Dublin 15 Local man's blog to promote Irish A CASTELKNOCK man has set up a blog to help promote the Irish language in businesses throughout the Dublin 15 area. Darren Mac an Phríora, from Laurel Lodge, set up his blog at http://bac15. blogspot.com in a bid to support the growth of the Irish language in Dublin 15. The former committee member of Dublin/Cork-based Irish language marketing organisation, Gael-Taca, looked at the internet as a great way to promote and publish things, including the Irish language. "I thought that having a website would be great for promoting the Irish language.
  3. 3. "I take photos of places in Dublin 15 with Irish signs and publish them on the website. "It is a community-based blog which helps to promote Irish in businesses throughout D15," Darren told the Gazette. Growing up, his mother was fluent in Irish, as well as his grandmother. He also learned his second language through Irish summer camps during his school years. The aim for Darren's new blog is to "support growth of Irish language in Dublin 15" and if someone can learn a little more about the Irish language through his online blogspot, he say's it's an added bonus. "If people can learn from it too, that would be brilliant." Retailers and community facilities are just some of D15 businesses promoting the Irish language with their own Irish language signage, including Myo's and Castleknock Community College. Darren's site not only highlights businesses in the area that are supporting the Irish language by publishing photos of their signage, he also offers to translate signage for companies who are looking to have both English and Irish signs on display for customers to see. For further information on the blog, or to help promote the Irish language in a business or community facility, log onto http://bac15.blogspot.com or email Darren at darrenjmacanphriora@gmail.com. Laura Webb Lth 2 25 Aibreán 2011 Gaeilge i mBaile Átha Cliath 15 ROINNT míonna ó shin, chruthaigh Darren Mac an Phríora, ó Chaisleán Cnucha i mBaile Átha Cliath 15, blag chun an Ghaeilge a chur chun cinn sa cheantar sin. Tá paisean ag Darren sa Ghaeilge agus i ndiaidh roinnt oibre a dhéanamh leis an eagraíocht mhargaíochta, Gael-Taca, bheartaigh sé go raibh an t-idirlíon ar cheann de na bealaí is fearr chun an Ghaeilge a chur chun cinn.
  4. 4. Chun tús maith a chur le haidhm an bhlag agus íomhá mhaith a chruthú den bhlag agus an Ghaeilge ar dtús, bhí liosta agus pictiúir de na Gaeilgeoirí atá ina gcónaí i mBaile Átha Cliath 15 curtha ar an suíomh. Rinne Darren an-chuid margaíochta ar an mblag. Bhí sé ar 'Beo ag a 2' ar Raidió na Life agus ar 'Glór Anoir' ar Raidió na Gaeltachta. Bhí píosa scríofa faoi sna páipéir sa cheantar, an Gazette agus Community Voice freisin. Déanann Darren fógraíocht ar an mblag do rudaí Gaeilge atá ag tarlú sa cheantar nó i saol na Gaeilge go ginearálta má cheapann sé go mbeadh suim ag lucht Bhaile Átha Cliath 15 iontu. Mar shampla, chuir sé fógra air mar gheall ar naíonra nua atá tar éis oscailt sa cheantar. Freisin nuair a bhí aisteoirí ag teastáil ó Ros na Rún bhí fógra ar an mblag. Chuir sé rud beag faoin nGaelscoil nua atá chun oscailt freisin, chomh maith le heolas faoin gcéim pháirtaimseartha i nGaeilge atá ar siúl i Ráth Chairn. Tá tuilleadh eolais ar fáil ó Darren ag darrenjmacanphriora@gmail.com nó is féidir dul go dtí an blag ag bac15.blogspot.com. Katie McGreal 17 Meitheamh 2011
